Please let me know what your base pay is in your part of the country. I live in TN and where I work our base pay is 13.00/hr. And if you are a CVICU nurse, do you get paid more for what you can do. thanks

Wow.

That's a lot of differential pay there!!

We pay up to $45/hr ($68 for overtime or holidays) in the Northwest for CC RNs.

I am a recent RN grad (May 2000) working on a cardiac care unit in a southeastern Wisconsin hospital(not Milwaukee). Base pay is $16.75/hr for new grads. Not enough for what we are expected to do though. I can really see it now that I'm doing it!

At the hospital where I work they just had their pay scale/benefit package evaluated by a consultant. As a result of this evaluation the pay scales have been redone. We were just confidentially informed of our pay adjustments this past week. Some staff was happy because they got $3/hr raises and others were very upset because they only got 11 cent raises. The RN's got the bulk of the raises. My hourly wage is going from $17.45 to $20.65. There is a shift differential for pm and night shifts and a weekend differential. I didn't realize how good we had it as compaired to other parts of the country.

I live in Myrtle Beach, SC. I've worked 9 years in ER at two different local hospitals. The pay is ~20.00 an hour plus night and weekend diffs. There is presently an $8000.00 sign on bonus for 18 months. If anyone is interested in relocating, please contact me (there is also a $2000.00 recruitment bonus). This is a gorgeous are with tourist attractions. Busy during summer months with a lull during the winter. We are noted for golfing and beach attractions. The cost of living is average. I live in a 3000 sq. ft. four bedroom, built 5 yrs ago...payments are ~1100.00. I'll supply any info for sincerely interested nurses.

When I read the regional quotes I was astounded! But since I live in CA and the cost of living is absurb maybe I shouldn't be. I have 14 yrs. experience, some in mgmt, I recently got a 3% increase, $36/hr not including differentials. But I also pay almost $2/gal for gas and my apt is $1150/mo for a 2 bedroom. I live 15 mi. from work and where I live is considered cheap! I am still struggling at the end of the month. I have found that message boards really show how different this world can be.

That sounds pretty good to me, here in the bowels of the country, aka hell, aka buffalo we start at $16/ hour, rent for someplace decent is about the same, gas is about $1.60 and taxes are THE HIGHEST IN THE USA,taxes for a $100,000 house are about $4500. we get $1.10 for 3-11 and $1.25 for 11-7, than add in the fact that we have to pay union dues!!! That post about Myrtle Beach absolutly killed me! i very desperatly want to move there, my wife and son are the only thing keeping me here. Our staffing blows too, 10-12 acute patients on 3-11.

I was just so surprised of what I just learned! I think it's time for me to invite everybody to come here in Canada to work! I just started working in the ICU last year without previous experience on this area, came from another country, and yet...I am earning $24.00/hour. Not too bad eh? Please...we are desperate for nurses!

you need to do the math before inviting people here 24.00 Canadian is about 13.00 US dollars / hr I;d say they have it much better even at the lowest pay scale. There is no difference here if you work in ICU or the ward the pay is the same.

hey kewlnurse from Buff, your right here in NY I'm Rochester the numbers are sounding similar. Most nurses starting 14-15 and making $20/hr after approx 10yrs, I'd say $25/hr for 15yrs experience and over 25-30 ish for over 20yrs. NP's in our area are making 30-45/hr. Our shift diff's pretty decent1.50/eve...2.00 nights then we have wkend diff on top of that.BUT taxes eat up alot..I agree on $100,000 house 1500-2500sq foot approx $3-4K per year. House payments seem in same area $1100 approx/15yr mortgage. We have mandatory OT in some areas. We have 8% sales tax in monroe county...ouch

GREETINGS from Boston, Massachusetts!! I am looking to relocate to South Carolina (my family lives in the Greenville area) and have been looking everywhere for information on the state and what various hospitals have to offer. The sign on bonus and recruitment bonus both sound great! I am graduating with a BSN in May of 2001. I am extremely flexible and very ambitious to begin a career as a professional nurse. PLEASE contact me if you and your facility would be interested. Also, I would apprecitate any info you have with regard to opportunities for new grads in S.C. I plan to come down and interview, etc. sometime in May after graduation. I thank you for your time and hope to hear from you (or anyone who has any insight into job availability in South Carolina). Sincerely, ARH

In BC, canada, the pay regardless of how educated you are, how hard you work ie, extended care or ICU; the pay is the same in the entire province - $21.48 to $26.50. Barring any srikes in order to renegotiate the wages; that is the most you will see. Also, BC residents are hit with the highest marginal tax rates in the country and have been for a long time with NO end in sight. Example: I make gross $55,000/yr, tax rate 47%, plus a 14% tax rate all year round on everything else. Also, career opportunities are not as diverse as the US example; Nurse Anesthetist =average pay $140,000/year, nurse peds, emerg, etc practioner, which raises the amount you can make and the career satisfaction. Hence, I realized that and moved to San diego, lowered my taxes by approximately 15%, increased my salary in CCU to $24/hr plus shift differential with a potential to earn $35/hr plus. These days my wife and I take our children to Disney land, water slides, sea world on days off and have not regreted the change. For us, the grass IS greener on the other side - God bless America - signed xpatriote. ;)

Hi there. I'm in a small (175 bed) hospital on the Oregon Coast. Starting wage (union) is 19.50 new grad. I am 10 years in the ED and am making about $27/hr. There is diff for weekends, swing and nights. I get just over 2 hours paid time off for every 12 hour shift that I work. No mandatory overtime. Insurance coverage (including family) that is reasonable (actually pretty good). Also have pretty good nurse/patient ratios.

Needless to say, I love my job/workplace.

where I work in Florida (Clearwater) starting pay for new grads is $15.30 hr and then we have a pay for skills, so a new nurse with experience could start as high as $20 an hour or more, depending on the skills brought to the job. CVICU does not pay extra

$24.oo an hour sounds great,if that is in american dollars, but if that is in canadian dollars, you need to convert it to american dollars to see what the real rate is.
