Calling all new critical care nurses, AACN needs your help!

We are seeking new critical care nurses with less than one year of practice to respond to a written survey. IF YOU ARE A NOVICE CRITICAL CARE NURSE, OR IF YOU KNOW A NOVICE CRITICAL CARE NURSE WHO WOULD BE INTERESTED IN COMPLETING THIS

SURVEY please respond immediately!

Our goal in this study is to identify the knowledge, skills and abilities required of novice critical care nurses in the first year of practice, and compare those to the knowledge, skills and abilities tested on the NCLEX-RN in order to better delineate the competencies which new critical care nurses need to acquire in that first year of practice.

Hmm WE have defined the competencies for critical care nursing in Australia and have a ICU transition program running in QLD. Teh transition program is 1/2 an ICU certificate )post graduate) offered through the university. I might check it out but they are probably aware of the initiatives over here.

We have had a regulation for almost 30 years for 2 or fewer patients per nurse in California critical care units. The law going into effest January 1sr mandates competency also.

Too many hospitals float any nurse with ACLS to critical care and say they are competent.

In my opinion the AACN is the best source of training and information for competency for critical care units.

So, I am sending a link to this forum to nurse friends AND giving out a hard copy to new nurses at my hospital as well as facilities where I occasionally work registry.

I will be a good thing for nurses wherever the NCLEX is given. AACN prodicts are very helpful. I keep the laminated pocket cards in my fanny pack (sorry to those outside the US where it is slang for something else).

There are med calculation, lab values, peds info, neuro & other assessment info in a small space.

Many books and offerings for individual nurses and education departments to use.

Does the study pertain to new grads starting in CCU (such as myself, before taking boards) or new critical care nurses who have experience in other areas?
