Second-Entry Nursing Programs - 2014 Hopeful

World Canada CA Programs

Published

Hi Everyone!

I'm starting this topic for those who are applying to 2nd-entry programs, to start in 2014.

A bit about myself:

I'll be applying to University of Ottawa and University of Toronto.

Graduated with a Social Science degree from Ottawa U w/ 7.2 CGPA (aka 3.33 on 4.0 scale, or a B+)

A lot of community involvement in health promotion, youth counseling programs, women's health research..

Currently taking the prerequisites...

I'm kind of nervous about the applications because I know how competitive these programs are... Any advice from current 2-year BScN students would be great!

Let's get this thread going

did you also apply to Ottawa?

I did not apply this year. I applied last year and was rejected with a 7.3. This year I only applied to U of T for nursing. I wish everyone the best of luck! :)

How does Ottawa's GPA scale work? I had an 86% cumulative average, which put me at a 3.9 on the OMSAS scale (http://www.ouac.on.ca/docs/omsas/c_omsas_b.pdf) for Canadian universities based on my home institution.

Also thanks rc88 for all the information. I hope UofT works out for you!

Ray88 what was your gpa for humber?

Talstar your prereq should not affect your admission.

Has anyone heard from trent or humber yet?

I got into the Humber Second Entry program a few weeks ago. I also applied to the Trent Compressed program and was told that they would start sending out offers in mid-March.

Congrats on your admission to humber :D what was your gpa for the humber admission if you dont mind?

Hey, thanks! :). I have a biology degree and a 3.50 gpa (B+) in my last 20 courses.

My gpa was only around 3.3 I think. However, I know they look at all marks. My high-school marks were pretty good (high 80s), and I took a massage therapy diploma program after my undergrad (kinesiology), and my marks for this were also pretty good (also 80s). Maybe they took all that into consideration, since I thought I would need better than a 3.3.

Congrats! I recently applied to humber so waiting for my documents to be sent. I also have a undergrad in kin. So do they give you transfer credits for the prep semester since the kin program already covers those courses. And if they give you transfer credits for the prep semester, do you start the program in sept or jan?

Thanks! I'm not sure if they give you transfer credits for those courses. I personally never took pathophysiology in my undergrad, and my physiology and anatomy marks were pretty bad (second year was bad for me), so either way, I'll still be taking some courses during the prep semester in September.

Good luck, and hope you hear back soon!

Hi everyone!

I applied to UofT, UWO, Queen's, and Trent. I have two undergraduate degrees from University of Waterloo with a 89.3% (3.9 cGPA according to OMSAS GPA conversion table). I am finishing up an anatomy course right now, but otherwise I've completed all prerequisites. I have an extensive list of working and volunteering (research assistant, private practice assistant, team trainer, youth tutor, etc.), a big involvement in research in our school (does anyone know if this is important for UofT? The supplementary form asked for research involvement), and lots of other extracurricular activities.

My first choice is UofT and my second choice is UWO. The other two are my backups.

I read that someone had already gotten accepted to Trent 2 days ago!! Do these offers have a time limit to be accepted? And do these offers come by e-mail as well as snail mail?

I have a friend who was on the waitlist for UWO with an 84% average, finally got accepted in May. Two other friends got into UofT with 79% and 85% averages!

I'm so anxious!! Good luck to all!

I'm sure you'll get your first and/or second choice. You usually get an email and also get the offer in the mail. If you have an online account with those universities, you can also check there for an offer (it's usually posted there first). Where did you read about someone getting into trent nursing 2 days ago?
