Second-Entry Nursing Programs - 2014 Hopeful

World Canada CA Programs

Published

Hi Everyone!

I'm starting this topic for those who are applying to 2nd-entry programs, to start in 2014.

A bit about myself:

I'll be applying to University of Ottawa and University of Toronto.

Graduated with a Social Science degree from Ottawa U w/ 7.2 CGPA (aka 3.33 on 4.0 scale, or a B+)

A lot of community involvement in health promotion, youth counseling programs, women's health research..

Currently taking the prerequisites...

I'm kind of nervous about the applications because I know how competitive these programs are... Any advice from current 2-year BScN students would be great!

Let's get this thread going

Thank you!! I haven't taken the quizzes yet - feeling a bit anxious about doing them... *eek*. Yeah, I re-read the email from my tutor, and she explained that we could include quotes from the book and terms and such, but not copy the answer word-for-word. (Which I guess makes sense...) Hope you're having good luck with the course so far! :)

Hi HenleyGirl, I just did midterm 1 this week and its all multiple choice.Make sure to pay attention to small details when you are studying.

Small details...? *cringe* That's my problem, I never remember the small details - I'm much more of a theoretical academic than a detail-oriented person. Looking forward to this exam...

For preparing for the midterm, I highly recommend using the WileyPlus resources that came with online code on the textbook. Lots of ways to practice there, and I especially recommend the Orion quizzes on there..

Is anyone else applying to U of T? I just submitted my supplementary app. Good luck to everyone!

hi Jekr, I also applied to Toronto!

Hi everyone!

I'm just about to finish up my application for UofT, but I'm hesitant to submit because I'm not sure if all my references submitted the forms. Does anyone know how to check the status of the work/academic references?

Anyone else applying to Western: Is your application listed as Complete yet?

I realized recently that they do rolling admissions, so it would be wiser to apply before the March 1 deadline. However, they appear to be very delayed in processing external documents, like external transcripts. It's been a few weeks since I sent them the transcript for Athabasca for BIOL 235, and it still isn't listed as received. Athabasca confirmed it was mailed. Today I received the response to an email I sent 2 weeks ago with a screenshot of my current grades, saying that now that they have that they can begin reviewing my application, even though the official transcript hasn't been received yet, which is a relief!

Just trying to get an idea of whether Western has started making offers yet, or how many people have had their applications completed.

Hi!

I'm a carleton student taking the ANP classes right now at UOttawa, also trying to get into the second entry program. My average is about 76, so I'm not to optimistic, but I figured I'd try anyway.

I'm thinking of applying UWO though because they only look at your last 10 credits, and my lowest grades are first and second year. So my average would be a lot higher probably 80. I'm going to call UWO admissions and inquire tomorrow hopefully they are easier to reach and more helpful than Uottawa admissions!

Good luck everyone!

Send in the application! Once you've submitted it, it'll show you on the main page whether or not they've sent in their reference. If they haven't, you can still change the referee, or just send them a reminder email.

Applied to UofT, Trent and Humber. Not sure when they start sending out acceptances. But I am currently completing my Stats prerequisite, I hope that doesn't affect my chances of getting in. Any idea on how many applicants UofT gets every year? Anyone go to the info session for UofT?

Hi would-be nursing fast trackers! Thank you for starting this thread. I applied to UofT, Queen's and Western with a soon-to-be-completed undergrad and what I think is a fine selection of volunteer and paid healthcare work experiences. Has anyone received an offer yet, or know of someone who has?
