Does anyone know of a university that offers courses (RPN to BScN) online and where you can do your placements in your own community? I have been taking an RPN to BScn bridging program through another university however; I am looking to transfer to another university that offers more flexibility. For financial reasons and having a young family I am not able to cut back my hours at work or re-locate to another city/province.

Nipissing offers a program like that. You do have to be employed at one of their partner agencies to qualify, though. Here is the link:

I attend the nipissing program. I am a single mom and i need to work and pay the bills. It is a good program. If you dont have an employer that is listed you can can get paperwork and have them added. If you have any questions dont hesitate to ask

Thank you for your reply. I do have a couple of questions for you, hope you don't mind.

I am thinking of asking my employer if they are interested in becomning a partner with Nipissing, I was just wondering if you know if there is a fee they have to pay to become a partner and if it is a lot of work for them to sign up?

Also what clinical placements do you have to take?

There are no fees for the employers. They just sign that they will support you during your schooling and they wont cause undue hardship during your course of studies like make it hard to take finals or something. You have 4 placements (med/surg, community, mental health, maternal/newborn/l&d) and your final preceptorship.

I have a maternal/NB/& L&D placement and a community rotation so hopefully I can get some credit for that. I work in a LTC facility( Nursing home) at the present time and Nipissing university said that they accept them as partnership. I just wondering how it is set up to do placements in med/surg...and mental health ( the courses I need besides my preceptoship). Does the facility you work in have to arrange placements for that?

Regarding Nipissing's Rpn to BSCN blended program, is this a bridging program? If not, is one need?

Nipissing sets up your placements. If you work at a nursing home you wont have any placements at your work. But say you worked for a local hospital you may do your med/surg rotation there. First placement is med/surg.

This program is a bridging program so no extra time doing a transition program then doing the university portion like centennial/ryerson does.

I have a couple questions about the nipissing program that I can't find the answers to online and Im hoping you can answer them for me. The first one is if there is a required average you have to have to gain admission to this program or is anyone eligible? Also, how long does it take? I get the impression that it is kind of a go at your own pace type of program but if you don't mind can you tell me how long you expect it to take you or if you know the average length then what is that.

There may be a required GPA but I don't think so. Some programs like Centennial/ryerson require a 3.0 gpa to enter into the ryerson portion but this school isnt like that.

The program is a part time program. They give the plan over a 5 yr period to complete. You can go faster. After the firs semester you can do more than the 2 classes required so you can finish earlier. Mine will be 3 yrs. if it all goes well. The longest you can take is 7 yrs.

This program is designed for people who work ft but like i said you can go faster if you prove you can handle an increased load without compromising your grades.

Dear fellow nurses....I'm just joining in the group as I was looking for some insights from Nurses who did or doing RPN to RN program. I want to start my courses in September. As I want to do part time,I have 2 options in hand. Centennial college or Nipissing university online program. 1.How is it at Nipissing course wise? Some people say it's very hard online courses. 2.Employer partnered with Nipissing, do they want certain amount of hours to be with them to support nurses? What I understood from Nipissing, as long as the program continues, student has to work with that employer or any employer partnering them otherwise they will be kicked out of the program. 3.How is their clinical placements? 4. Would you recommend Nipissing over centennial part time programs? I'm very confused,please help me out dear nurses. I don't know why we are always short of nurses yet not any easy way for nurses to upgrade themselves. Thank you
