Ontario- HOAE results? 'Normalized' score?

World Canada CA Programs

Updated:   Published

Just wondering if anyone else has recently taken the HOAE? I got my results, but I am wondering what the 'normalized score' is all about? I am willing to share my scores if anyone is interested in comparing their results. Might give us an idea of what the average score was like, or what the deal is with the 'normalized' value. It's frustrating to sit and wait around during the college strike... I personally haven't received any news on my application at all since I got my HOAE scores. I applied to both Pre-Health and RPN. Looking online, it doesn't even seem like they have all my prerequisite grades recorded.

Well...as they say, patience is a virtue. Although I don't recall anyone ever accusing me of being 'virtuous' before. :D

Just anxious to get started, like everyone else!

hi i know this tread is old but i wanted to know if i have a chance to still get in to the rpn program my grades are 85, 81, 87, 89 for my pre req but i failed my hoae test really bad in there any one who got into the program after failing the hoae test

Hello

My name is Megan and at the moment I'm still in highschool (Gr. 12) over the summer holidays it has come to my attention that I must write the HOAE as a part of my application. I live in the GTA on Ontario and the colleges I am working towards being accepted into are Humber, Sheridan, and George Brown college.

I have many questions about this exam that no one was able to help me with :/

1. What does the test determine?

2. What happens is I fail?

3. What result is the lowest one possible in order to pass?

4. If I don't do well on the exam can I still get into the program of my choice with my high school grades?

I ordered a study package in order to help me out and hopefully it does - this is where i ordered it - Health Occupations Aptitude Exam Study Notes

I'm just very stressed about this test, tests stress me out in general and I hear that I could be asked anything which scares me even more

So if someone can give me some advice and help answer my questions I would be very grateful!

Thank you !!

I got in during the first wave of acceptances, and my scores were as follows:

Mandatory courses Average: Approx 90%+. Didnt calculate the exact average but had everything over the 90% threshold.

HOAE results:

Verbal: 99

Arithmetic: 54

Non verbal: 80

Academic: 88

Spelling: 89

Reading Comprehension: 98

Natural sciences: 92

Vocational: 97

I did not study at all for the HOAE because I knew it would stress me out. Instead, I played video games the whole week leading up to the exam and just decided to do my best and stick to what I think the correct answers are. I believed that over studying would just stress me out and I did not find this exam to be "study-able". The knowledge is so general that there truly is very little you can do to study aside from the general math section which is basically grade 6 math. Fractions, percentages, etc.

So my advice to everyone who is doing the HOAE is to relax, do your best, and trust your instinct.

Im currently in my first semester of nursing at Conestoga, and hope to see all of you here soon! The program is fantastic and the workload is heavy, but it is truly a great experience so far, so dont give up guys!

Hi just wondering is anyone taking the hoea test this coming Feb. I'm freaking out I don't want to fail but I feel like I'm going to. any one has any advise on how to prepare for this test.

Have you written it yet? I wrote it on the 19th.

I did mine on the 20th. I got my raw scores back, but they don't really mean anything. I have more sections than most of the people here are posting as well.

How did you find it? I have more sections as well, but I think the verbal, non verbal, and math added together is equal to the aptitude section. If it is in your end, I think that is why. It adds up for me. In which case, you now have 5 sections (like everyone on here) and a more accurate average. Where did apply?

Thanks, that probably makes sense and I'll check it out in the morning. I applied at Niagara and Mohawk. You?

How did I find it? I studied math, chemistry and biology for weeks (everything from the HOAE study guide book I bough from Amazon) and NONE of that was on the test.

But.... it is over and I think I did OK. Not as good as I could have done, but I am glad it is over.

Good luck to everyone. I hope the random question test didn't get the best of you.

Mohawk, connestoga and Sheridan.

I agree, I feel like I could have done better but it's over with. I hope between high school grades and Hoae results it will be enough. I read that around 1300 people apply and only 130 are accepted....for September starts. :S

Good luck to you too!!!

Hey guys. I wrote my HOAE just yesterday and I received my grade. It was a 57% :(. I was honestly very dissapointed. The entire test I found was difficult I studied for the test in advance by studying off of the HOAE study guide and practice questions from Amazon as well as the practice questions online. I had an 80% so far, I am still in Grade 12 with all U level courses and I applied to Conestoga and Mowhawk college. I truly thought this was an unfair way to test someone. The terms used in the exam was at an advanced level to the point that I didnt understand it. I also thought the timing at the top right of my screen was intimidating. Anyways. I am so depressed becasue I don't think I am going to get in to this program as this is an oversubscribed program. This might be irrelevant but when I went for the testing at Conestoga, other people that wrote this were "mature applicants". There was another girl who was a highschool student

Don't get down on yourself. You don't know the outcome yet! The test was made to be difficult but you still passed!!!

It doesn't matter if people are mature students or not, the HOAE is a requirement for entry so everyone has to write it. The programs are full of mature students (more than 50% in my experience), so it doesn't matter.
