  1. I got in during the first wave of acceptances, and my scores were as follows: Mandatory courses Average: Approx 90%+. Didnt calculate the exact average but had everything over the 90% threshold. HOAE results: Verbal: 99 Arithmetic: 54 Non verbal: 80 Academic: 88 Spelling: 89 Reading Comprehension: 98 Natural sciences: 92 Vocational: 97 I did not study at all for the HOAE because I knew it would stress me out. Instead, I played video games the whole week leading up to the exam and just decided to do my best and stick to what I think the correct answers are. I believed that over studying would just stress me out and I did not find this exam to be "study-able". The knowledge is so general that there truly is very little you can do to study aside from the general math section which is basically grade 6 math. Fractions, percentages, etc. So my advice to everyone who is doing the HOAE is to relax, do your best, and trust your instinct. Im currently in my first semester of nursing at Conestoga, and hope to see all of you here soon! The program is fantastic and the workload is heavy, but it is truly a great experience so far, so dont give up guys!
  2. Um, well I cant say for sure what marks they want - but for me personally my marks are above in the thread : ) - What I can tell you (now that I finished orientation) is that over 1200 people applied and under 120 people were accepted. So about 10% of the people were accepted that applied for Sept. I was also told that Sept is a lot harder to be accepted for because of the number of applications, and that January is a bit easier (I cannot verify this, just something the lady at the administration office told me previously). I believe you must have over an 85% average between your high school marks and the HOAE - HOWEVER, again, this is speculation based on my experiences. I really hope you get in! Dont give up!
  3. Accepting anything will NOT affect other offers at all! So dont worry about that. Accept what you want at first, and you can always accept a different one afterwards without anything bad happening. Congratulations on everything!!! I hope you get into the program of choice!
  4. Awe maybe we will be in the same class ! : )
  5. Didnt mean for it to come across that way. Its been hard as hell trying to stay on track, and I suppose I more or less wanted to show support - didnt mean anything more that just that - although I can see areas that could in the exact way you stated. I apologize for that. It really wasnt my intention at all. D:
  6. If thats what you got out of it.... - shrug -
  7. This mirrors my thoughts and experiences after I graduated with a bachelors as well. Depression hit, and I hated working in an office. I'm doing exactly what you are now at the age of 26 =) Best of luck to you! I truly hope you find your calling and passion.
  8. This is why we can't have nice things. I'd be very happy having a dog nearby. I find them comforting and often find kids are more dirty and less well behaved than dogs are, yet we accept them everywhere..x.x
  9. I was looking over the threads of the past, and I noticed a TON of threads that were closed about this matter from many years ago. Id just like to say a few things about this topic, and ask for your input in 2014! I was a patient once - and not even for a second did a nurses' weight cross my mind! Regardless of the weight of the nurse, they were all fantastic. I didnt even think about that until I came across some topics regarding "Practice what you preach". Im a thin person, but that doesnt mean I am healthy. Heck, I was in the hospital for kidney issues, and Im quite young. So I dont think that weight = health, or vice versa. So to all the nurses who were afraid of being looked at in a different manner based on your weight - Dont be! What I cared about when I was sick wasnt what you wore, or how your hair looked, or what your weight was...it was about your care, and how sweet and understanding you were when the pains hit. Whether it was a smile while you took my vitals, or a joke while you drugged me up... THATS what mattered and thats what I remember... So to all of you ladies and men out there taking care of us patients... A huge thank you for making such a huge difference. Im excited to join an amazing group of people like yourselves in the future.
  10. Oh right, about the time.... I finished in about an hour and a bit. NEVER ran out of time, or even came close to. The trick is to not doubt yourself or second guess yourself. Go through the test with confidence like Jol said. If you doubt yourself you will just waste time. Trust yourself.
  11. Oh, I didnt study for it AT ALL. Like, zip, nil. My mum was on me constantly telling me to study - but honestly, studying would have been a waste of time. A LOT of the things on that test had nothing to do with Science. It was very vague and general. I would go so far as to say you either knew it, or you didnt. Maybe 10% of the test touched upon things we learned in high school, and that was mostly all math and general science questions that were very basic. The only thing that threw me in for a loop that you CAN study for, is the imperial system. I couldnt do a lot of the questions due to no knowledge of imperial system. I learned metric, and assumed metric would be used in Canada. The test is done by the USA, so expect imperial system based questions. I had no metric system questions at all. I got an 81% without studying at all. Most of the sections I ended up with 97, 98, 99... The section with the imperial system I ended with a 70, so it destroyed my average to an 81%. Another part you can study is the spelling section, where it is all spelling based on scientific and medical terms. Again, this is such a weird section, and I havent seen 90% of those words in my life. I guessed almost all of them just based on words I would associate with them. Now I really dont want to tell you not to study, if you are anxious about the test. Oh, and a question had to do with who won a Nobel Prize...Which I found ridiculous since that hardly seemed relevant at all. I just found the test impossible to study for, since it was so vague and broad and just......I would go so far as to call it an IQ test more so than an actual content based test. You can also study for the math, but the math was so basic and simple... It was grade 7 Math. Fractions, multiplication, percentages, area and perimeter. Also the Pythagorean theorem. Again, if you are good with your math, this is something that you really never have to touch or study for. Let me know if you have any questions about it. : ) This is all the info I could sprout off the top of my head, but if you have any specific questions I am more than happy to answer them for you! Most of all, dont stress about it! Youll pass it no problem. : D
  12. Forgive me, youre right. : ) I never took into account the 5% for experience since I never had any, haha. And congratulations on your acceptance! : D
  13. Oh then youre good to go : )
  14. I think you have to have biology completed within a certain time before you apply. For Conestoga I believe its 4 years? I dont remember, but you might have to redo a bio for a refresher.
