BCIT Jan 2013 Applicants

World Canada CA Programs

Just wanted to get something started as I will be applying for this intake. Let's get this thread going. Fill me in on who you are and why you are applying bcit's nursing program.

I was told that BCIT is the most recognized institution of all nursing schools in BC. There clinical hours which I like and it's a 3 year program. It is also the most competitive, therefore the brightest, smartest, and well rounded individuals will be there. I want to be associated with a competitive environment, makes me work harder and we can learn from each other.

I am currently at kwantlen completing my pre reqs. I have completed my 1st year english and 1st year psych. I will be taking libs 7001 and 7002, 200 level psych course and 2 other bio courses.

Specializes in Cardiac Care.

Hey everyone,

I started a "BCIT August 2013 applicants" forum.

It was my first time applying to BCIT as well, I had over 200+ volunteer hours at Surrey Memorial hospital, plus more volunteer and leadership work (which I included in my resume), applied with 109 credits at SFU, and had one of by libs courses completed, as well as my psych requirements. Also, I don't know how much high school grades play a part, but I had chemistry 12 (96%), math 12 (86%), bio 12 (88%) Despite the credentials, I still got wait-listed!

I'm surprised at how competitive this program is, but I know it is worth re-applying to and that the more post-secondary credits the better. Good luck to you all, and I can't wait to meet the August 2013 intake :)

Of course it's okay!

This was my first time applying as well. In my resume, I mentioned that I have a BSc in Health Sciences from SFU, over 200 hours of volunteering in the hospital, and 2 retail jobs that I've had.

I don't really know if those constitute to any "life experience"...but I feel like that aside from the fact that I have a lot more credits than what they want, I have credits for psych and sociology. I remember when I spoke with a bcit advisor that admissions really look for those credits when they are awarding "points" to your application.

I have a question about the lib electives does libs 7001 and 7002 not have a transfer course from other universities? I thought i read if u have 200 level sociology, or psychology classes they would cover this? I have 2 200 level psyc classes and 3 200 level sociology classes?? Thanks! Congrats everyone who is accepted! Good luck to the rest Of us in hold list!

Hey,

you can always call them if you want and find out what's transferrable or not? Or possibly make an appt with a program advisor or you could call them. I like to go there personally though...I hope this kind of helps!

Not 7001 and 7002. There are other libs electives required that your sociology and psych classes could transfer for, but 7001 and 7002 are BCIT specific courses. They have just begun to allow a certain very few english courses to transfer in place of 7001 now but almost nothing transfers in place for those 2 courses.

Ok thanks everyone! I ll look into it some more! :)

Does anyone know if I can talk to a nursing advisor specifically in person? Or is this something that needs to be done over phone/email? Thanks!

HI Panda82,

Call BCIT and tell them you want to speak to a program advisor for nursing. You can either talk on the phone, or they will give you the dates/times of when you can drop in personally. Program advisors are only available through phone until 8:30-12:30 I believe so call between these times. :)

Thank you! I'll be calling them tomorrow :)

Hi for those wondering i was on the regular holdlist for the August intake, dont know where or how may people where on it. I got the impression that about 10-15 people where considered top of the holdlist. A friend who did get on to the top of the holdlist got fully accept about a month after acceptances went out so mid juneish.

And as far as dates go application where due on Jan 31st

We got shortlisted around March 15th or somewhere in that week. I did seem like some people got notification on being shortlisted almost two weeks before others. I think the last people heard around April 1st.

All documents where due Mid April, i believe it was the 16th.

And we got a final word about May 1st.

Blondie thanks for starting the Facebook group i followed the link and joined.

Pippa....you said you got a call about 5 days before classes were set to begin in Aug....had you already reapplied for the January intake and still got a phone call before the August intake began?
