BCIT Jan 2013 Applicants
This was my first time applying as well. In my resume, I mentioned that I have a BSc in Health Sciences from SFU, over 200 hours of volunteering in the hospital, and 2 retail jobs that I've had. I don't really know if those constitute to any "life experience"...but I feel like that aside from the fact that I have a lot more credits than what they want, I have credits for psych and sociology. I remember when I spoke with a bcit advisor that admissions really look for those credits when they are awarding "points" to your application.

sugardust and smiley65: I spoke with financial aid and managed to get a hold of the admissions officer today, so it seems to be sorted out. At least for the time being, I know what I need to do. Thank you for your suggestions!

Side note: I was not aware that upon provisional acceptance, we are to pay level tuition fees in full by November 8, 2012. For me, that's $3300, which I don't have at the moment. I was planning on applying for a student loan later this month once I've heard back on whether I've been accepted because no use in applying unless I know I'll be going to nursing school in January. I looked into requesting a tuition fee deferral, but one of the requirements is that I need to have been approved for Government Student Loans first. Obviously even if I apply for a student loan now, I'm not gonna be able to have $3300 in 1 day. I don't want to lose my seat because I haven't paid my tuition. I am going to email the admissions officer, but I worry that she won't be able to see my email soon enough. Any other suggestions? Please and thank you.

@BulmaBriefs, I sent you a PM :)

And also, the instructions do say that the references should use the reference forms and there is a section for additional comments, I would assume they don't want an extra letter. Just my 2 cents though.

@iheartpurple: But it says we are not to submit more than 2 references. I would assume that means 1 work + 1 volunteer references only. If you have several volunteer ones, I guess you would have to pick a specific one.

@iheartpurple: It says that shortlisted applicants are to submit their reference forms by Oct 31st and that all applicants will be notified of their status by Nov 6. I read the documents over a couple of times in case I missed it, but they didn't mention anything about a letter of intent.

BCIT Jan 2013 Applicants
Hi everyone, I just got an email (like 10 min ago) saying that I've been shortlisted. So I guess this means we won't have to wait until early Nov to find out whether we've been shortlisted afterall.

If we don't get shortlisted, will they send us a letter or something to let us know? Or is it forever waiting, hoping that you'll be the next batch to hear the good news?

Smiley: Student enrollment and services told me that the deadline is extended to Sept 14 for those who need to take the challenge exam. I am not 100% sure if he means I have up until Sept 14 to do the exam (because that is the last date you can do the exam) or my application may still be considered for the Jan intake if I take the exam before Sept 14, so I emailed the challenge exam's program assistant to verify. I will update you on what she says. Pepsi: So did you recently take the exam? Was it difficult? I feel anxious that they don't really give the details about what's on the exam other than the brief overview of what the bio 12 curriculum normally covers. I am in the process of trying to get study material. I briefly looked NIDES, but I'm not sure how to navigate the website to find info on the bio 12 course...

Smiley: I just checked my application status and it says I'm missing requirements. They didn't accept my proposal of having 2 courses that I've taken at SFU in lieu of the bio 12 requirement (this was what a program advisor suggested) because my bio 12 just passed the 5 year recency It says I have to take the challenge exam. I haven't called admissions to check yet, but does that mean I will no longer be considered for Jan as technically I don't have all the requirements? cuz clearly I'm not able to complete that challenge exam by the Aug 31 deadline. I feel hopeless.

Hi sourpickle93, I don't see a heading that says Nursing Dept Review Ready. All I have under Student Letter Summary is 2 letters that say Your Next Steps and Application Received...Could it be you have that because they looked at your application already? ... I submitted mine pretty close to the deadline. I don't know if I should be worried but I handed in all my transcripts, resume, etc., but under the Application Status portion, there aren't any check marks or anything that say they have received my documents.

Could it be you missed the deadline? That's strange cuz I just checked and I didn't get that an email like that. (I hope I am not speaking too soon) :S But I spoke with the program advisor lady on July 18, she said the admissions dept was just starting to go through the applications they received from May.
