2nd Entry Nursing Applications for Sept. 2013 - U of T, York, McMaster

World Canada CA Programs

Published

Hello all, Just starting a thread here for any applicants to the 2nd Entry Nursing Program for U of T, York, and Mac.

People can:

-ask questions and/or post when they have received an offer of admission or rejection

-share their marks/volunteer experience

-support each other during the super stressful waiting game

-discuss application issues, essay questions, prerequisites, etc.

There was one last year and I found it super helpful to see what others were doing, when offers were going out, and which candidates were selected. It's also a good reference for next year's potential applicants.

For myself, I have applied to U of T, Mac, York, and Dalhousie, with an A- or 3.66 GPA overall and 3.63 in my last 30 credits (10 half courses or 5 whole courses). I do not hold a Bachelor degree, but am in 3rd year at York's Honours BA Psychology, and hold an Associate of Arts from Langara College in BC. I have several years experience volunteering for an inner-city after-school program, for a crisis intervention phone line, and with fundraising.

Last year I was rejected from U of T with 3.53 in the last 30 credits, and only 2 years post-secondary. I had a C+ in one of my reported pre-requisites.

Hope this helps everyone and best of luck to you all!!

Hey Timhortons,

I was just wondering for your supplementary application. the only questions that were asked were: describe yourself in 250 words

and name a challenge you've had right?

I was looking at the site and they said we would have to answer a question like

"A personal statement, which articulates their goals, knowledge of nursing and thoughts on health care"

on our supplementary. but i don't remember doing that.

Just wanna make sure I didn't do my application wrong. I really wanna go to U of T =(

Hey Pixiwoo,

For your u of t application, you just had 2 questions right?

and name a challenge you've had

I think everyone gets the same questions - yes, they were along those lines :) I'm sure if you filled out the application online and answered all the boxes you're good. Wish you the best!

Hey jjpoon0326,

For my application the 2 questions were:

1. What skills, strengths, and interests do you have that make you a good candidate?

2. Describe a meaningful intellectual experience you have had.

I feel like the first question gave me a chance to articulate why I think I'm suitable for nursing, as well as some of my personal goals. As long as your answers were clear and you somehow linked it to nursing/health care I'm sure you'll be fine.

As of yesterday I declined UofT's offer because I'm planning on going to UWO. Hopefully they start sending out their next round of acceptances soon (seeing as the acceptance deadline for first round is the first week of April).

Wishing you all the best!

I was accepted to U of T today! I had an average on the lower side because of 1 bad semester, but in the end it didn't matter!

Anyone hear from McMaster yet?

Hey Cole91, CONGRATZZ :)

would you mind sharing your stats?

final year gpa

prerequisite grades??

and volunteer stuff?

hehee just curious :)

congratz again!!

My UofT application is still pending. It says 'application received, to be reviewed'. I'm confused as to why my application hasn't been reviewed even though they've sent out acceptances already. Does anyone have the same message on their application? Could it be that I'm still in second year so they won't accept me until I get my second semester marks back? Any input would be greatly appreciated!!

I think it says that as soon as they receive your application. I'm pretty sure it also takes longer for the JoinUT site to update since mine also said Application being reviewed even after I received notification of acceptance. I've also heard first round of acceptances have been sent out - offers expire April 10th so if you haven't heard anything by now, there's a good chance you'll hear mid-April.

Oh so I guess the JoinUofT site isn't the best way of checking. I feel a bit less anxious now :p Thank you for your reply! And congrats on your acceptance btw :)!

jjpoon0326, thanks! I'm really excited and definitely accepting my offer. My final year GPA was an 82%, so I'm surprised I heard back so early! I can't remember each prerequisite grade, but I know I had one B in a humanities course, and A's and A+'s for everything else. I'm in my final year of my BScH in biomedical science, and I have a fair amount of volunteer experience, ranging from working directly with stroke survivors, Alzheimer's patients and random little stuff. I also sent in 5 references, to boost my chances. I think my research experience is what got me in though. I worked as a research assistant through my third year of school and got a scholarship to do more research in the summer. I also am currently doing a 4th year honours research project in a lab, focusing on Alzheimer's disease neuroprotective mechanisms. I think U of T puts a greater emphasis on research than other universities.

I was also told the first round of acceptances is over, but new offers are being sent out very soon. Good luck to everyone still waiting!

timhortons,

Can you share your avg in % for Western applicants?

Thanks :)
