Typical time to take?

I took the crne so it might be different from you guys, but usually the majority of students take it right after which I personally think is better than prolonging .

Similar to LabellaRN, I wrote the CRNE but I agree, students tend to take the exam after graduation since your knowledge and studying skills are fresh and want to start working ASAP. There is a short period after you finish school to study for the exam. Some students study for the exam during school or wait until they finish. At the same token, some choose to take a prep course about the exam and others do not. Reflect upon yourself and how you learn best and your preparedness to write the exam. You do not have to take it right away.

For the CRNE, and could be for the CPRNE, we are given 3 opportunities to pass the exam but does not need to be done in one year period, whenever you feel ready to write or re-write. Good luck in your studies!

I technically finished all my educational courses in April of this year and took the first offered opportunity to write the CPNRE, which was in May. Like Caffeine said, the knowledge acquired is fresh in your mind. Also, in terms of jobs, many of my classmates wanted to start working right away.

With that being said, life happens with certain circumstances, and you might find that you are not optimally at your best to take the CPNRE right away. That's totally fine as well. We are given three chances to take the exam - January, May, and October are the months that students write.

Yes there are only 3 sittings/year, but you won't be writing the CPNRE when you graduate. The last sitting for that exam is this fall, next January graduate nurses will begin taking the NCLEX.

NCLEX, does that exam apply to PNs as well?

As it is now, I will be graduating April 2016

Since that is almost two years away, I guess it is possible and we will find out.

I wrote the CPNRE last year and will be writing the NCLEX-RN in 2017, I am very curious!
