Hi Jamie!

My name is Cynthia. I met you during the UCLA interview. I interviewed for the Neurosurgery unit, I live in Southern California. Congrats on the job!!! I got the job too :) She had called me on 12/6!!! I am so excited. I passed NCLEX and have my license now. I emailed HR and the Nurse recruiter about the hiring process and the exact start date since I am going to move closer to UCLA RR. I know we can't do our livescan or physical before 30 days of our start date. Do you know any more info about the actual hiring process? I figure we will hear from them in Jan after the holidays...hopefully. I am going on Monday to check out a few apartments.

Does anyone have any advice about an affordable place to live for someone looking to live alone. I don't mind commuting from a surrounding area. The cheapest studio for rent in Westwood I've found is around 800 and 1 bedroom is 1300.

Hey Cynthia,

Congrats on getting the job! I remember how nervous we both were about our interviews but apparently we both did well on them! :) Just to confirm, that you're the cynthia i met- I was the one from new jersey and i'm korean and we both had our interviews on nov 15th at 8am. I have my nj rn license and i applied for my cali rn license dec 19th. i applied for my temporary license too just in case the permanent one didn't come fast enough.

I dont know how RR works but since i got hired at SM intermediate unit, i called their HR. they told me that they will call me as soon as they get the information. they estimated that i will be receiving a call in the first week of january. i'm going to call them tmw and ask them when i can schedule my apts for the physical and paperwork. i'm still in nj and it would be nice to know when i'm scheduled asap! their hr also told me that i will probably start around the first week of feb, but they said that they are not too sure.

yea i've been checking out apartments/studios through westsiderentals.com. my uncle told me that that's the best website out there for getting an apt in LA. I'm really hoping to get a studio in SM so that my commute wont be long but SM apts are so freakin expensive!

you can email me if you want. when i arrive in LA, maybe we can get lunch or coffee. it would be nice to make some new friends right away since i only have one friend in LA. haha. my email is [email protected].

Hi, congrats to all who got the job! ^_^ I was wondering, is the new grad program at UCLA only for RNs? Is there anything for LVN new grads? I want to move to LA in a few months & have been planning on doing this for over a year now. Was recommended to look into UCLA. Thank you in advance.

Starting my orientation next week! Seems like MICU is the only unit starting early. I'm the only external applicant it looks like and the other 4 are internal apps.

FYI for those whos going to do their physical....occupational health(CHS) is INSIDE the school of medicine! I looked all over for this place. The directions they gave are very confusing. Basically 1) go through the doors of the school of medicine 2) go straight down the hallway and turn right 3) keep going and nursing resource (14-222) will be on your first right (thats where you will do your uniform fittings and new hire paperwork) but for your physical go straight until you see the O elevators. Go up and do your physical. They will take your urine and blood draws. The blood draw will test for missing titers and TB (first time I've heard of a TB screening through blood antigen). The new hire paperwork takes forever because you have to watch a welcome and benefits video and signing a lot of papers. Plan to be there for 2hrs+. Make sure you bring your Social Security card or passport AND your Driver's license.

GL and congratulations to those who got hired!! This is a magnet hospital!!! You should be very proud of yourselves.

Hey So I have a quick question? I got Hired for UCLA SM Oncology. I am going Tuesday for both the Physical and New Grad Paperwork. Are both in the same building? I was just given an address. The whole thing is really just an unplanned , unorganized mess. Did they Give you a schedule for training and such when you filled out your paperwork?

UCLA/SM is moving into their new hospital on Sunday 1/8 so things are a little crazy over there right now.

Ok cool, Didnt realize that was happening. THanks for the heads up. Just getting anxious about starting.

Have fun on Tuesday buckeye nurse, my HR day is not until 2/14 and I don't start until 2/22

Hi nursedrone,

i noticed that you finally got your HR appt. may i ask what unit and what hospital you're working for? i got hired on the intermediate unit at SM and I'm still awaiting a call from HR to schedule my appt. i would love to schedule my appt asap bc i'm from nj and i want to know when i should be flying out to cali.

Hi Jamie 2487,

I was hired at Ronald Regan in the Neuro/Trauma ICU. My unit director emailed me and told me what day I am going to HR to do my new hire paperwork, benefits, etc, and my start date on the unit. She also told me to go to HR 30 days before my start date for a background check and fingerprints as well as go to employee health to do my physical/drug screen. It was left up to me to set that up.

Like I said to buckeye nurse, Santa Monica moved into their new hospital yesterday so I think that is creating delays and some confusion for them. Give them a few days to get set up in the new offices and I'm sure they will sort everything out. HR at RRUCLA is seperate from HR at SMUCLA from what I can tell.

Good luck over at SMUCLA! I did a tour of the new hopsital and its beautiful.

Oh wow I should have checked this site sooner!!! Buckeye!!! We're going to be coworkers!! =) Do you start on the 23rd as well?? I just scheduled my physical this Thursday!
