Hi! I'm about to start the nursing program here in Las Vegas. I plan to move back home to CA as soon as I graduate and pass NCLEX. I just wanted to know if anyone has any info on how to or how easy/hard it is to transfer into CA? I tried calling the Board but I always get the message that they are too busy and to call back at a later time :anbd:. Also, how long does the process take? Well, if anyone can give me any advice, I would greatky appreciate it! Thanks!

This is the info you need. Get your license in NV first since that is where you are going to school-it's easier. Then you can get a CA license by endorsement.

You can always register to take NCLEX in CA. My friend graduated with me in Ohio but was planning to move to Montana right after graduation(her husband took a job there before her graduation). She just had the school mail her info to the Montana board and she registered through pearson view (which is a national registry) to take boards in Montana. Don't even bother taking the test in Nevada then endorsing, because you will have to pay the fee for both licenses. Good Luck.

I would suggest you make sure you are able to get a job in CA before you move. Seen many post in the CA state forum as a new grad struggling to find a job.

If you're sure you're not going to work in NV after graduation, just apply for Licensure by Examination in CA.

Some people say it'd be faster to get your license in NV then transfer it to CA, but the fact of the matter is, both states require your transcripts and fingerprints, and you'll end up paying fees to both CA & NV Boards of Nursing and NV charges $25 to fill out the form you need to let CA know you're licensed. You'll end up spending a lot more money to get your CA license if you get your NV license first and it's a waste of money IMO.

I went to school in NV and I'm familiar with their initial licensing procedure and I went to school with many students who ended up in CA after graduation. The ones who moved to CA and applied only with CA had their CA license faster than the ones who thought it'd be faster to go through NV first.

Going to school in one state DOES NOT mean you have to get your first license there.

It's not easier - at least not in this case. Both states require transcripts and fingerprints for both licensure by exam or endorsement.

So, if you choose to go the NV route first, you are going to have to submit fingerprints ($51.25 fee) and application ($100.00 fee) and have your school send your transcripts to the NV Board of nursing. You get to wait around 1 month or so while all this gets processed (transcripts usually not available to send until 1-2 weeks after graduation) Then, when you want your CA license, you need to have the NV BON fill out a license verification form ($25 fee) and then you pay the CA BRN for your license by endorsement ($50 fee if you do livescan fingerprints, $101 if you do fingerprint card). So your CA license, if you do it this way, will cost $226.25 or $277.25.

If you go straight to CA BRN and apply by examination, you pay either $75 if you do livescan fingerprints, or $126 if you do a fingerprint card. You still need to submit transcripts. Nonetheless, this is the better way, and cheaper.

I think a lot of people misunderstand the licensing process. When you graduate, you can apply to take the NCLEX through any Board of Nursing. You DO NOT have to get your first license in the state you went to school in. You can take the NCLEX at any available exam center, too. You select which exam center you test at and which Board of Nursing your results are sent to when you finish the exam. I took my test in CA and had my results sent to NV, for example.

Just get licensed in the state you're going to get your first job in after school. Getting it in the state you graduated from only adds time and cost to the process.

thanks alot silverdragon. i appreciate.

Finger prints are required for school in Nevada to participate in Clinicals. Does Nevada want a 2nd set for NCLEX?
