Transfer RN License from Nevada to CA

U.S.A. California

Published

Hi! I'm about to start the nursing program here in Las Vegas. I plan to move back home to CA as soon as I graduate and pass NCLEX. I just wanted to know if anyone has any info on how to or how easy/hard it is to transfer into CA? I tried calling the Board but I always get the message that they are too busy and to call back at a later time :anbd:. Also, how long does the process take? Well, if anyone can give me any advice, I would greatky appreciate it! Thanks!

Yes, the Board of Nursing in NV requires you to be fingerprinted for your license. If your school or a particular facility required fingerprints for clinical participation, this has nothing to do with you receiving your license.

I am currently finishing up schooling in Nevada (Grad. Dec. 5th 2015) and plan to start working in CA. Does anyone know how long the wait is to transfer a NV license to CA if I decide to take the NCLEX here in Nevada for the sake of time and information when it is fresh in my mind. I've heard rumors of 7-9 months. Is that number correct? According to the CA board in RN's it could take up to 3 months to get an NCLEX date in CA, being out of state so I figured maybe transferring would be the better choice. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I took my NCLEX in Washington because of the same reason that it will take forever to get the authorization to test in CA. However, remember that endorsement could also take 2 to 4 months. I would apply for a temporary license while your application for endorsement is in process.

It's been 8 years since I took my NCLEX but the BRN's slow process has never changed! I think BRN actually got worse over the years (according to the many threads I have read about the CA BRN). Hope this helps!

I would be happy with 4 months, honestly! So you really think that would be the longest wait time... The board is so hard to get ahold of and they don't really budge!

yes, if you take your nclex and failed it, you have to pay another application fee of $100 to NV plus a new set of fingerprints since it will only be valid for 6 months to be able to get a new att & retake the nclex.
