Rio Hondo College?

U.S.A. California

There isn't much new information about this school on these boards, so I am wondering if there are any current students of this school that can share their experiences, class schedule, difficulty, clinical sites, resources, etc...

And has anyone else applied for the Fall 11' class ?

Hi,

My science GPA was a 4.00, but my overall GPA isn't that great (I wasn't that focused when I was getting my BA), so I did what I could do to get extra points (e.g. volunteering, speaking more than one language, having my BA, and having a phlebotomy liscense). Hope this helps. Good luck.

Nice. Anyone know the cut off for points?

I'm applying to the spring 2012

I found out I am 4th on the alternate list for the Fall 2011 semester at RIO HONDO. Really hoping that I get into the program. Has anybody had any experience with the alternate list at this school? I talked to a lady in the nursing building and she said my chances of getting in are pretty high.

Hey WYU, did you call or did you get a letter?

I got a letter in the mail last Monday or Tuesday. I had to sign a paper and return it to the office by the 25th regarding the provisional admittance to their program. When I turned in the paper, I asked the lady and she said I was 4th on the alt list. Did you apply to Rio Hondo as well?

futurenurse- you should call them. I called them a week ago and found out that I wasn't in any of the lists:( The lady was really nice and said to continue to wait until the first week of april because they might have a second round or something. I'm also applying to citrus college.

wyu- may I ask about your application stats (gpa, certificates, work experience etc)? just would like to know for next time, so I can try to get as much points as I can. I thought that I would have a good chance because I have all the preq's done and graduating this year with a BA, but I really need to do more! :nurse:

havhope - I have a Bachelor's in Business marketing that I received Winter 2009 form CSULB. My GPA at LB wasn't great, only a 3.0. For my pre-req's I got an A in Anatomy and Physiology, and a B in Microbio. Haven't had any work or volunteer experience in a hospital setting.

Hope that info helps. Good luck with your apps!

I called. I didn't get in either =(

I have the same science stats as Wyu

Thanks Wyu. Best of luck at RHC! I have a good feeling they'll pick you :nurse:. I guess next year, I'll have a better chance at the schools. I just hope they pick me before my sciences expire. I don't want to take micro again! lol.

I was considering doing the Accelerated BSN, but not so sure about the pacing of the program.

Futurenurse: Don't give up, you never know there could be a turn around.

havhope - Thank you!! I really hope so. Where else have you applied to? I agree with you on not wanting to take micro again. That was a nightmare!! I also was considering the Accelerated program, but those cost much more than regular community colleges and the pace like you said must be insane!

Citrus college so far but I a feel a little doubtful :( I agree with you on the cost of the accelerated! The plus side is that you finish within a year, but I'm not sure If I could learn in that kind of pace. lol. Did you apply to a lot of nursing programs? Was this your first time applying?

I'm so disappointed to hear that acceptance letters have been out for a week and I didn't get one. I'm a working LVN and I have multiple years of experience as a CNA. I got straight A's in ALL of my prereq's and a 3.8 in my LVN program. I'm also considered financially disadvantaged. I'm not bilingual and that's the only area I lack points in. I did my prereq's at a different CC but they don't specify that may make a difference. I don't understand why I wasn't a candidate, it seemed like I had a good shot. Gosh, I felt so confident. I will call tomorrow hoping there has been someone kind of mistake.
