  1. pc2801 - You have it worse than I do, and I give you a lot of respect for being able to do what you are doing. I agree with your study tips, but after listening to my instructor for 4 hours, I really have no urge to listen to her voice again while in the car. It's almost like the devil in my head. Hahah. But good luck to you!! newway - I get a BOG (board of governors) fee waiver, because I am a poor student and my dad doesn't make much money. Macgirl - I agree!! The instructor is very crucial to the student's success. We already had 2 people drop out, and it is only the 4th week. =(
  2. Thanks for posting that info Ldial1. I am not really worried about the NCLEX passing rate for either schools, since they are both pretty high. GWC does have a lower passing rate for 2011 but they also had more students taking it than RHC. Thanks again!
  3. Macgirl - I just turned 24 last week, so I am still pretty young. The tuition isn't an issue because I will be getting a fee waiver. My grades are ok right now, its only the beginning of the 4th week today and we haven't had a major test yet. But, I have had this same professor for a summer nursing fundamentals course and she really frustrates me the way she lectures/tests. Extremely hard to even get a B on a test even after reading the chapters and all the notes. Mzrainydays - I feel like switching schools might be the best choice. But, I am still unsure of myself. My friends and family also have told me that GWC is the better choice. The time spent commuting is the biggest deal for me. Rather than being stuck in traffic I could be reviewing material and studying. How are you dealing with your long commute everyday?? And what semester are you in?
  4. Mamayogibear - The commute is not the only reason I am considering changing schools. GWC was my first priority because of all the great things I have heard about the program. They just built a brand new nursing facility (less than 2-3 years ago) with great labs and classrooms as well. I am also familiar with the campus, because I took all my pre-req's here.
  5. Pass rate for NCLEX is very high for graduating students at RHC. The clinical sites are also good, but also very far from my house.
  6. Hello everyone, I am currently in my First semester at Rio Hondo College (RHC), and just got accepted into Goldenwest College (GWC) for their Spring 2012 class. Here are some of the Pro's and Con's of switching schools. Pro's: Attending GWC 1. Closer to home - 2. Less stress/time from driving back and forth to school 3. Great program ( from what I hear) 4. New nursing building built in last 2-3 years. Con : Not attending GWC 1. Losing out on one semester from RHC's program 2. Losing out on the summer nursing fundamentals course I took for RHC. My plan is to keep attending classes/clinicals at RHC for the semester and gain as much experience as possible. What would you do if you were in my situation?? I really want to make sure that I am making the right decision. Any responses will be greatly appreciated! Thank you!! =)
  7. Has anyone heard from GWC recently?!
  8. Buy the ATI study guide book. It helps a lot. Review all the subjects in there and do the two practice tests. Go over the sections correlating to the questions that you miss on the practice test. Don't stress too much, this test is really not that hard. Just know your stuff and you will be okay.
  9. I just took the TEAS test Version 5 today! The test wasn't very hard, but some questions were kind of tricky. I would highly recommend getting the ATI study guide, because the format of the test is the same as the format of the practice test in the study guide. The math and science sections I thought were fairly easy, I got 100% on the math and 98% on the science portion. I didn't do as well on the English portions though. But, just make sure you review all the material in the study guide and you'll do fine!! If anybody has any questions about the test, I'd be glad to give you more tips.
  10. Did PCC email you about your admission into their program? I thought they didn't start notifying people until early May? Either way CONGRATS!! =) Havhope - I really hope you get into Citrus!! I am getting really anxious! My TEAS test is on Friday at RHC..
  11. This is my first time applying for GWC, but I am still staying optimistic of my chances of getting in. I still haven't received a letter from GWC..
  12. havhope - This was my first time applying for a nursing program. I just finished my prereqs last fall. I applied to Cerritos, Goldenwest, and Pasadena. I'm still waiting for a response from those schools too. I've never heard of Citrus college.. where is that? Pandacakes - I really hope that you get into a nursing program. You're well qualified for any spot at any school in my opinion. Best of luck to you! Hopefully Rio hondo made a mistake! =)
  13. havhope - Thank you!! I really hope so. Where else have you applied to? I agree with you on not wanting to take micro again. That was a nightmare!! I also was considering the Accelerated program, but those cost much more than regular community colleges and the pace like you said must be insane!
  14. havhope - I have a Bachelor's in Business marketing that I received Winter 2009 form CSULB. My GPA at LB wasn't great, only a 3.0. For my pre-req's I got an A in Anatomy and Physiology, and a B in Microbio. Haven't had any work or volunteer experience in a hospital setting. Hope that info helps. Good luck with your apps!
  15. I got a letter in the mail last Monday or Tuesday. I had to sign a paper and return it to the office by the 25th regarding the provisional admittance to their program. When I turned in the paper, I asked the lady and she said I was 4th on the alt list. Did you apply to Rio Hondo as well?
