National University Accelerated BSN

U.S.A. California

Hi Everyone:

I am currently in the process of trying to get into national university's ABSN program for the fall 2009 at L.A location, anyone who has gotten into the program (both L.A and S.D) before or still in the process of applying, I would really appreciate any feedback from all of you guys about your general status (overall GPA, TEAS, etc) or your insight about this program overall. I feel like nowadays every nursing program becomes a lot more competitive than before, even for the private schools. So any feedback or comment would be very welcome from all of you guys, Thank you.

hey 73ss86,

where you one of the students that was apart of the whole accelerated sdsu fiasco? aftere that program fell through i appllied to nationals program in la and i am a part of cohort 4. its a great program, good luck to you!

Hi Everyone,

I just found out about National University (I've heard of it before but never looked into it until now) and applied online. I was thinking about going to Everest for my LVN then doing the LVN-RN bridge until I found NU has a BSN RN program which I want instead.

How does the admissions work at the LA location? Is it impacted or on a point system like most colleges?

I am a student at CSULB majoring in Kinesiology so I have Anatomy, Physio, Nutrition, English, and Math all done.

Will this transfer? How long is the program? There isn't much info on the website.

Thank you in advance!!

They do have a point system. They look at your overall science (pre-req) GPA, Teas Scores, and proctored essay to determine if you get into the program. Points are determined by how many times it took you to complete a pre-req course. As long as your undergrad GPA is above 2.75 they will consider you for the program. Their minimum requirements aren't as hard core as some of the other other programs. When you apply to a specific cohort, it all depends on how well you score as compared to the rest of the applicants applying, so it is best pass all your pre-req courses in one try and maintain good grades and have a relatively high TEAS score to secure your spot.

As for what courses transferred, I didn't have a problem transferring any courses except for Speech & Biostatistics. They are pretty particular of what classes transfer, so it would be best to contact admissions to make sure you have the appropriate classes. If you do not have the exact classes to transfer you will have to retake it.

This is for the Accelerated Program. You said you are a student at CSULB. Does that mean you will transfer to National's BSN generic program?

Ya it's for the generic BSN. I couldn't find much on the generic so I was seeing what the ABSN is like. I still have I think 4 more prereqs before I can apply but they said I could take it at NU. I really hope I can get in. It sounds like a great school!

The deadline for the BSN is in July..

Hi moonshadow815,

Yes, I was apart of that unfortunate ordeal. I'm happy that you got into Nationals Program! I hear great things, from past students, that its a good program to get into. Hopefully, I hear news from them soon!

Hey everyone... I got accepted into the May 2011 accelerated LA program as well... Congrats to everyone else who did too. I know we have orientation April 8th and will get all the info we need but does anyone know what day in May we will actually be starting??? I'm trying to go out of town in between and no one from the department has emailed me back. Thanks.

I talked to the counselor and she wasn't even sure herself, but she said sometime in the first week of May! So do whatever you have to do now...for me that's traveling!

Seriously?! For some reason, I got it in my head it wasn't till the last week (wishful thinking)... Thanks for letting me know, see you soon.

Hey future nurses! Congrats to all accepted for the may2011 cohort!

i'm new to this site, i just attended the nursing info session for NU ABSN program this morning.

i am going to apply for the fall 2011 cohort, and i just wanted to see how i "stacked up" against the competition. So if anyone feels like sharing their GPAs or point totals, i'd love to know what it takes to get in. Thank you and congrats again!

Hi,

I'm new to this forum and I just had a question regarding National University's ABSN program. I understand that this is a one-course-at-a-time format, but does the program (based on quarter credits) consider you a full-time student? I was considering joining the US Navy Nurse Corps and their Candidate program requires you to be a full time student (three-quarters a year). Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Thanks,

Jon

Hi,

I am new to this forum too. I just have a question about the schedule for classes. When do they tell you what the hours and days are for the next class? Since the courses are only one month to 2 months, do they tell you your schedule for several courses or do you just know your schedule per course? Also, which Teas version does the school require? I want to start getting some study material. Thanks

Steph

Specializes in ER psych.

TEAS V, I know that for a fact. Study the science section the most. National average on the science section is in the 50-60 percentile, which is the lowest of all the sections.

Specializes in Near Future: ED, Future Future: ACNP!.

Hi there,

You find out 4 - 6 weeks in advance what your schedule is for the next class and only one at a time. I'm 11 months into the program (not that I'm counting) in San Diego. You are at the mercy of them and need to be flexible.
