MTSAC's lottery number (2010)

U.S.A. California

Published

I just received my lottery number and I am number 926! I applied November 2009.

I just wanted to put the information on here so we can see how far we are along the list. I know that some people will pick other programs, change majors, etc and hoping my number will go down. But 929 is very high and seems that I wont get in for years.

Here are the numbers that I got some someone else.

725

850

Anyone out there?

That's huge...I can't imagine what that must feel like. I went from 910 last semester to 358 as of today. I still got a while yet. I just finished my EMT cert and will be working on my CNA this summer. Trying to stay somewhat in the field until my number is called. It's gonna be a couple of years for me still:(

Good luck to ya!!!

Our sciences only expires when applying to a new school. With mtsac, you only get one lottery number, so you are safe with your sciences. I was very discourage at number 900's (almost 8yrs wait) but reading this forum made me feel a lot better. It seems like every letter (2x a yr), the cut down was about 50% or around that. I hope this form continues and each person that posted their lottery number will tell us updates and when they got in.

I am soooo glad I started this forum :)

First of all, thanks Billy for the updates and I hope you the best 2 yrs of your life!

Twee- I also received my 2nd letter today. I am assuming you also applied Nov 2009, the same semester when I applied. I was number 926 now I am 366! Wow, very close to your number 358. We might be classmates :)

It seems that the number went down faster than I thought. Within one semester, I passed 560 applicants :) SO, number 366/120 (students per yr)= 3 yrs wait! I think our wait will be much sooner than 3 yrs. Maybe a total of at least 2 yrs. ??? FINGERS CROSSED!

Ok, I got my second letter too. I'm now 404. I agree, so many were weeded out from not taking the HESI, not passing the HESI, and not turning in the letter of intent. We can't expect another drop that like, that's for sure. So, I'm still looking at another couple of years, AT LEAST. :uhoh3:

On another note, are any of you concerned about getting a job when you finish nursing? The nursing graduates are not finishing with jobs like they were just a couple of years ago. After all of this waiting, I may still not be nursing. California's economy crisis has really hit this area too. That's why it is taking longer to get in, and no jobs when they get out. And since it's not a compact State, it's not easy to go to another state without experience. I'm still looking into Texas. There isn't a waitlist, priority goes to those with better grades, and HESI scores, etc... And the job outlook is much better there. I ran into an instructor from APU and she said there is a waitlist there too, and that they were informed to tell their students to look into going to Texas because of all of the opportunities there. That just about sealed it for me. My two cents! :twocents:

First of all I just want to say Congratulations to all that have been accepted for this Fall :) and to all of those whose waitlist number dropped signifcantly :). I knew this would happen. I wrote about it in my older posts. I applied last year in Spring 2009 and my number was 499 I believe, then it went down to mid 300's in January and now I'm number 134. I hope to start in the Spring of next year. For those of you that are starting the program this Fall, if you would so kindly keep us posted of how nursing school is for your first semester, it would be great and much appreciated. I wish all of you the best in nursing school and patience for those waiting like me. Please don't give up! Do your best!!! Nursing school will be here before you know it then graduation! Also, dont worry about anything else but getting in and graduating. Everything will work out! :)

Can anyone who got into the Fall 2010 class update us on your number on the waitlist? I'd like to get an idea of how many people deep they needed to go to get the 60 that they needed. Plus it will help many of us on the waitlist to see have far we have moved up after this one semester. Thanks a bunch and good luck to you!

Sure thing! I was accepted into the Fall 2010 class and will be starting in August...so excited! My number is 33 for this last drawing and was 73 as of the January one. I don't know how much that helps, but I hope it can give you a better idea...

Good luck to you!

Wait, there is still 32 candidates in front of you now? If you were 73 in the spring and they take 60 per semester, shouldn't you be 13 now instead of 33 for the Fall?

So last semester you were only 13 above 60 and was not even an alternate? I figured that they would go to at least 80 or so to find the people they need. I guess every semester is different, but dang thats not alot of people beyond 60.

I can't figure out how these numbers make any sense

I agree, the numbers can be hard to figure out. I guess what makes things difficult is that we really don't know how many people that previously got letters to start in spring 2010 needed to defer or didn't pass the hesi or changed their mind and didn't want to start the program at all.

The way I look at it is like this:

I was number 73 in January, which was when they also sent out letters of intent for us to return. Out of the 72 before me at that time, 39 people either didn't return their letter or started a program elsewhere, making me number 33 for the Fall 2010 lottery. Now who knows how many people out of the 32 before me now are actually going to start next semester? It seems like its half and half....half of the people on the waiting list decide to start and half don't.

When they accepted 90 into the program a couple of semesters back, my anticipated start date was spring 2010, so I would have waited 1.5 years after applying. With the 60 they accept now, it pushed me back one semester to fall 2010 and increased my wait to 2 years total. So I would think that you can estimate between 1.5-2 year wait before starting.

Let me know if you have any more questions or if what I explained doesn't make sense because I needed to keep reading it to make sure it made some sort of sense, but these lottery numbers are tricky! :uhoh3:

I say  to most of it! lol, well i was in January 116 and in May letter(recent) i was 45, that's a large jump! i knew i was going to get in because the person who deals with the database that was messed up for a bit, told me she has to send at least 120 letters out to get her 60 that alone alternates! i was happy of course because she pretty much told me be prepared-she was right!

so i wouldn't worry too much you will be called the number goes down quick, but i do believe that it's roughly about 2 years to get in, the nursing counselor told me beforehand don't make plans around any of it because you never know. He said sometimes ppl plan pregancies and other important life stuff around their wait time. He said it could be very well that they call you sooner or later like the 3 years they tell you. Sam Nassar is a great nursing counselor.

so good luck with the wait-you're number should be coming up!! i remember when i first started my lottery number was 1111!! i was oh my gosh i am never going to get in! lol, but i read on and figure it out about the relative number and the lottery number.

Good luck!!! our orientation is coming up pretty soon!!:redbeathe
