Los Angeles County College of Nursing and Allied Health - Fall 2014 Applicants

U.S.A. California

Published

Hello future nurses!

I am starting this new thread for everybody that is planning to apply to County's nursing program for Fall 2014. I am still waiting for their posting the information session date on their website; hopefully, it will not take long since the application period has already started. How many of you are planning to apply for Fall 2014. I am just finishing my last prerequisite and hope to apply by the end of December or beginning of January. Good luck to us all!

Cheers!

Has anyone gotten an invitation for the teas test yet from the county?

Hello! I just confirmed yesterday with LA County they received my app and all of my transcripts. SOOOOOO, just waiting for TEAS invitation. I am in the process of studying now. So nervous for that! You would think with all the pre-reqs I did, I wouldn't be nervous. But its the mentality, "this teast is going to determine my fate of my dream job". EEEKS. LOL.

I know exactly how you feel about the teas test determining our fate. I'm believing in faith that I'm going to do well and get accepted :) I'm just waiting on LAC to receive my high school transcripts. My high school mailed them on jan 8th and LAC still haven't received them, so I requested for another copy to be sent. So I'm just waiting. They received my other ones already.

Are you currently enrolled in any classes? I'm in two class and I work full time so I haven't been able to study for the teas lately. I gotta get back on the ball with studying

Hi Smylee!

I am not enrolled in winter classes. After all of those pre-req's and fighting to get in and do well, I am taking the winter off. I do love taking classes, so I enrolled in a medical terminology class for Spring (Starts 2/10). I too work full time (mostly overtime) and have a step daughter that keeps the gossip from school flowing through the house at night. HA!

It seems as if the most difficult task was getting my high school to actually send the transcript. I went to high school out of state, so it was a bit nerve racking just calling to make sure everyone sent what they were supposed to and when they were supposed to. Is this your first time applying? What classes are you currently taking? I have also applied to COC for fall. Are you familiar with their process? Geographically speaking, COC would be my first choice, but my dream would be with County.

If you haven't studied for TEAS yes, may I suggest that you do get a hold of the ATI manual and at least thumb through it? From the looks of other posts, it sounds like TEAS are done sometime in March/April and I will say, there is some material that is unfamiliar to me as I took it in high school chemistry (not telling you how long ago so I don't reveal my age :roflmao:).

We are all in this TOGETHER and I am so thankful for this website. It is the only thing that has gotten me through this process. I didn't want to drive my family crazy talking about it, all the possibilities, different program requirements, application requirements, etc. They look at me as if I am insane. Only prospective nursing students really understand the struggle!

I'm currently enroll in Intermediate Algebra and Speech to satisfy my Critical thinking requirement for CSULA. I plan getting my BSN as well.

Yes, this is my first time applying and the only school that I am applying to, it's the only school that I want to attend :). I'm not familiar with COC. Are those the only schools you applied to? I'm just curious...what makes County your dream school? Have you attended one of their info sessions?

Yes, I have started studying for the TEAS, I purchased the ATI study manual and the 2 online practice tests. I started studying back in December, but I have many distractions, 3 kids, work and now school. So, I have kinda put my studying the for the TEAS on hold, at least until I receive my test date, and then I will get back on the ball. I left off in the science-- Microbiology section of the teas manual. I noticed that there is some Earth science and physics that I am not familiar with, well Earth science I haven't taken since high school and that was a super long time ago ;). I'm an older student, but it's okay, it's better late than never! Physics, I have no experience with. I also download the Mcgraw Hill teas app onto my phone to take practice test.

I am thankful for this website and school. Talking to people who get me is FANTASTIC!!

Yes, I am also wanting to do my BSN! Med term is not required for it, but hey, it will help with nursing school and when we are on the job!

COC = College of the Canyons. It is in Santa Clarita, CA. I have heard really great things about County and I like the fact they have a point system. I am little a upset at many of the other colleges for being on a "lottery system". I have worked very hard in keeping a good GPA and getting A's in all of my pre-reqs. Don't misinterpret what I am saying though. I am VERY happy for others that do get in and "win" the lottery, but it does make me a little freaked that I will be thrown into a lottery pool and not get picked when my grades are there.

I have heard great things about McGraw Hill TEAS study guide as well. I am going to get through the ATI and the buy the McGraw Hill one. The more practice, the better! And here is a BIG HIVE FAVE for us older students finally taking the time to go after a dream that once seemed impossible with life challenges!

Update.....I spoke with LA County yesterday. They said they usually get about 400 applicants for each application period and accept about 40 on average. YOWZA! I know this is the same for about all of the schools. Apply to anywhere and everywhere possible! We are bound to get in somewhere!

Yay!!!! That means they got your high school transcript after all!! YIPPPEEEE! How many points would you have if you passed TEAS the first time around without the bonus points? I am SO happy for you!! You have been waiting a LONG time, just like me.

If I pass the TEAS with a 75% or higher, I will have 83 points. If I score under that, I would have 78 points. Last fall the cut off was 78 points. What about you? How many points will you have?

Also, last fall they accepted 50 students. That's what they said at the information session, I don't recall if they mentioned the number of applicants though.

You should be receiving your TEAS notification letter soon
