LAC+USC interview new grad RN

U.S.A. California

Hey guys, I have a question. I had an interview with LAC+USC and received a letter that I passed the oral exam. I read in the letter that they are going to contact me if positions open up. I am a new grad RN. Have you been in my situation? How long does it take until they call you? Do we have another interview after the oral interview or this is it? Please share your experience with me..thank you

@AngRN77LA, congrats! thats so cool, we will be working with eachother!! how exciting! :) are you a New Grad RN? I went in for my lifescan May 29th and havent gotten an email yet for my health clearance.. I did have my 2 step TB test done within the last year and I have copies of my titers and stuff..so i dont think i have much to do for the health clearance...I just wish I had an official start date so I can tell my current employer and notify my school! :( Im really in no rush though to start ..i know when we start, we are gonna be BUSY!!! lol

R. Yusi, apparently this examination is new and takes the place of the interview. It is a work styles assessment that tests things such as deductive reasoning, professional potential, reliability etc. I was just hoping maybe someone had taken it because I have no idea how to prepare....

Hi Sophia,

Im sorry..i had my interview like 3 weeks ago and I never went though a written exam. I went through the physical interview and everything..some of the clinical questions i got asked were pretty interesting and hard...(like im glad I have ER experience..because if I was fresh out of school..i wouldnt know how to answer some of the questions they asked)..people say if you went to nursing school...you'd do fine..but my interview was pretty hard and gave me situations where the disease and tx isnt obvious, and I went with my current experience in the ER and THAT helped out a lot)...

Anyway, good luck with the written exam!! hope it goes well

Sophia432, i am to take the written exam too! i did the study guide assessment and it was so difficult! i think i read in the letter that we would need a calculator too, so im gonna review dosage calculations as well.

r. yusi, was the position you interviewed for the RN I-ER position? i wonder if you got those because ER experience was required. congratulations on the offer! :up:

@R.Yusi, Hopefully you'll hear something soon! :) All I know is that there are two start dates: The 1st and the 16th, so depending on when your livescan clears, you can maybe gauge more or less when you'll be starting since things after than move pretty quickly. I'm predicting a July 1st start date simply because I need to give a two weeks notice at my current job.

(I'm not a new grad...but a recent grad :) I graduated in May 2012 from Long Beach City College and I've been working in med-surg for the past 5 months. New to ER and county tho and very excited!!!)

What have they told you about the training program?

@coasttocoastRN

I didn't have ER experience and was offered the position in ER. I think it has to do with how well you come across in the interview, understanding what they are looking for and being able to match your experience, personality and skills to that.

Yes, The position i applied for was the RN-I position. I dont think experience is required because it seems like other applicants got the job with no ER or RN experience...Did you accept the job offer @ county?

Well, they didnt really tell me much about the program except that its a combo of on the floor training and classroom setting..you have to pass numerous tests..and most of the floor training will be on night shift .have you heard anything?

coast2coast, So....I took the written exam. Not feeling that great about it. The three minutes seemed to go by really quickly! Have you taken it yet?

I wasn't offered a job [yet], just the written exam. Hopefully it goes well so I can be on the list. I was on the list last year but was offered a job here in New York and by the time I started applying for a position my eligibility had expired since it had already been 6 months since my oral interview.

Not yet, Sophia432! I have tomorrow off so I'll do it i the morning before it expires... Yes, the practice ones are so hard! I hope you did well! You probably did much better than you think. ;)
