kaplan college in Vista

U.S.A. California

hey i just moved to california from connecticut. i met with kaplan college about their lvn program and i just ned some feedback about your experience as a student or grad. i really need this help thanks:up:

The RN program is only offered at the San Diego campus. I'm currently in my second semester there. The admissions process is based on a point system so you do not necessarily need 6 months medical experience, but the admissions reps will definitely tell you that or try to make you take some other medical class they offer (PCAT, MA, or CNA) since being an alumni there gives you points as well. Having a bachelors in another field also helps you get in (no medical experience required) and they also look at your teas score (must be in the mid-high 80s).

So you don't need medical experience?? That's interesting.. they told me I needed it to even be considered, that's why I didn't even bother to apply. I don't have a bachelors either, so do you think I could apply?

How do u like the program so far?

Honestly, above all, Kaplan is a for-profit school and a lot of the admissions reps are skeezy and will tell you anything. The admissions dept really has no say on acceptance into the program since selection is done by the director of nursing, they can only inform you on the trend of those who were actually accepted. I don't know how much weight medical experience, a bachelors, or being an alumni is placed on the admissions process, but I'm sure that having either would greatly help your chances since your teas score would be the only thing they would be able to base your possible acceptance on. I'm guessing you'd have to blow the teas out of the water to be considered without any of the other stuff since Kaplan is becoming a very popular option to get a nursing degree.

I was accepted on my first try, but I did shell out 4k to do their CNA program ( Crazy I know, but since my husband is in the miltary I was able to get aid to pay for it). I haven't worked as a CNA and have no medical experience whatsoever. I also have a few classmates with degrees in other fields and were accepted with absolutely medical experience as well. I am very happy with my decision to attend kaplan. Once you get in and past admissions it's a whole different world. Kaplans board pass rate is up to 96% and of the teachers I've encountered so far I can definitely tell why. They definitely strive to give you the right knowledge to pass boards and the experience to be a good nurse in the real world.

I'm glad to hear that it's a good program!! I'm not about to spend 4,000 for a cna though. I'm thinking about doing the CNA course in San Francisco. It's 4 weeks long and only $900, after that I will apply there.

Hello. I am looking for information about Kaplan's LVN program. I went in to take the first test the other day and passed...they said that you have to get a 21 to pass and wouldn't tell me what my score was..thought that was strange. I was wondering what other tests you have to take and is it as hard to get into the program at Kaplan as it is to get in to the community college. I am a nervous wreck about spending so much money on school....I have a year to get this done while my husband is exhausting his unemployment and therefore able to save us money on daycare allowing me to work part-time.

I currently make 20 bucks an hour as a checker at the local grocery chain...and a counselor told me that they are considering dropping the Lvn program because there aren't any jobs. Once I give up my senior clerk position I am stuck making 5 bucks less an hour and no more 40 hour weeks either.

Does anyone know if it is true that it is hard to get a job fresh out of school in the Stockton, Ca area?

What tests do you have to take?

Do you have to sign the dotted line before they let you know about financial aid and what part of the amt. you owe?

Does anyone know about the pell grant and how many times I would get it for the program that starts in December?

Thank you for your time

Does anyone know

Another question...My friend told me that I need to make sure it is an accredited school or I cannot use the credits to get my BSN...does anyone know if it is accredited?

Specializes in n/a.

well my friend that worksat a hospital said that they are removing out lvn and renaming them as clinical care technicians, wowwwww.

An LVN is a vocational program not a degree program, so an LVN program at any school would not have credits which you can use to obtain a degree in the future. From what I've heard it is very difficult to find jobs as an LVN. My friend got her LVN license in Aug of last year and still has not found a job. Most hospitals also don't hire LVNs because of their scope of practice is limited. On the other hand, most LTC facilities do use LVNs as med nurses so

you would likely work in a facility like that.

Thanks for the information. I heard that University of Phoenix has a bridge program and all you need is to be an LVN for 6 months to apply. I have 52 credits at the community college and they will transfer 48 of those credits...saving me a lot of money! I also heard from a friend that I can apply for the Cal Grant and get up to 10k plus I already know I will get 5500 from Pell Grant. I feel a little better about the cost knowing that I will probably only end up paying half the cost out of pocket.

Does anyone know what part of the HESI exam you have to take? I am going to the orientation on June 2nd....VERY EXCITED! Hopefully it will answer a lot of questions .

I was wondering if anyone knew what the next sign up class is after the Oct opening?

I am struggling with math, english, physics, and am taking some summer classes

to brush up..Why is it I wonder why kaplan is the only nursing school that makes

people take a hesi entry test..shrugs oh well, it is what it is. I bought the book,

and now I feel dumb lol because everyone keeps saying how EZ it is...hmm, I

must be out dated I guess because I found parts of it HARD, any suggestions?

Also, I am a military spouse and was told that the 6,000 is no longer available?

Ps: To all military spouses:

I know of a site online that offers FREE tuitoring to all active duty spouses, if

you'd like more info send me a pm k =)
