how long does it take for them to evaluate your job application?

I sent out an application online exactly a month ago and I haven't heard anything from it yet. Is this a usual time frame? I tried calling them twice already to follow up but never got a return call. I have the experience needed for the job, so i can't understand why they have not responded yet. Job is still available online. I am moving to san diego area in 5 weeks and I don't have a job yet. starting to freak out a lil bit.

Anyways, how long does it usually take for hospitals in san diego area to evaluate job applications??:crying2::crying2::crying2:

Right now a lot of hospitals aren't hiring or having hiring freezes. Even experienced nurses are having trouble finding work. Did you call them? They may give you an answer along those lines. Usually you would expect to hear within a week or two if they are interested. Though it can take longer.

I found that the usual response to my online job applications was that I never go a response at all. One responded back the next day with a computer generated rejection stating that I didn't meet the requirements, when in fact, I was overqualified for the job I had applied for. I tend to not waste my time with online applications. I have found that eight out of ten times when I go in person, I am interviewed on the spot or given an appointment to interview.

I will do that too when I get there next week. It's just so hard when you live 2500 miles away from them... Thanks for your post.. i was having second thoughts of going in person, but i guess it will be OK. where do you go to, Human Resources or right to the director of the unit?

I go to Human Resources for the type of jobs I apply for. If I were going to a hospital, I would go to Human Resources to apply and then go to the floor that I wanted to get hired to work on and look for the nurse manager of that floor or reverse this process, meeting with the nurse manager before filling out the application.

All depends on how large an organization, number positions being screened, HR staff and # applicants to position in how soon one may get a response.

HR has only 1 employee + Director-- would take 4 -6 weeks just to get applicants sent to me, so to speed up process, I screen my own applicants. Recently posted per diem clerk position and received over 500 applicants in 3 wk, skimmed 85 applicants resumes to come up with 8 to interview....remainder will get email rejection "better qualified candidate" once final applicant chosen as that's how software program works. Don't want to close position if applicant doesn't make it through hiring process. Many managers are not as proactive.

Other times, I've posted position only to be told hiring freeze across the board---position posted 3 + months but none being filled. HR will remove from view my positions only when criminal background back and clear.

Do not place all your hope in this one position... apply to anything you can find online. With current economy, may take weeks to months to land esp as southern CA tough market.

I never received a rejection email. does that mean they are still in the process of evaluating applications? Sounds like you are a nurse manager. Is it Ok if an applicant goes right to manager or director to apply or follow up an application? what would you think of the applicant if he did this?

Another resource for your job search in CA: caljobs.ca.gov They sometimes have jobs listed that I haven't been able to find elsewhere.

Unfortunately, having a posted nursing position does not mean there is actually an opening. It is a common practive by HR departments to post openings to see what pool of people there are to fill the position. This helps them determine if and how raises, etc need to be given. It IS NOT RIGHT, or fair, but it is done all the time. It is very frustrating to those needing a job.
