CSU Dominguez Hills Online RN to BSN

U.S.A. California

Published

I was just wondering if anyone has information about CSU Dominguez Hills, which is located in Carson, CA. I'm looking into getting my BSN soon, I currently have an ADN. I just graduated this year and just started my first job as an RN in San Francisco so I want some flexibility. How do the clinicals work, if any? Can I go through my employer with that? Lastly, any experiences or thoughts about CSU Dominguez Hills??? Thanks! :D

hi guys! ..I am also intersted in their program ..do you know how long it will take to complete the RN-BSN? and is the program hard? thanks!

The program doesn't require full time student status to complete. You take as many classes as you can handle. Apparently, California enacted some sort of legislation that requires colleges to design a program for ADN nurses to complete a BSN in a year. And if you look at CSUDH's BSN student newsletter, it definitely looks like it!

I'm currently attending part time, and I met a lot of MSN students who said that's how they started with their BSN because they were working full time, family, etc.

As for difficulty...the motto was, "You get what you put into it." I will say though, just from experiencing some classmates so far...it's hard if you don't know how to work a computer (but if you're accessing allnurses.com you're already smarter than the average bear). If you've never done a research paper before using APA citation, it can be a little overwhelming.

I definitely don't feel like I'm in "nursing school" but I do feel like I'm taking an English class and writing about my experience/knowledge as a nurse.

I was looking at this program but recently many new grad programs and military programs have stated specifically that they will not accept ANY online programs for RN-BSN. Bummer.

Can you provide any links? I'd like to see with my own eyes because I have never read anything like this and I've checked out many a new grad program in San Diego and the military sites. (since I am now a new grad RN) Thanks. :)

Does anyone else have any info that a hospital or such does not want the nurse who did an online ADN-BSN program? This would be good to know. I have never encountered such.

Mostly verbal 1) Look at Stanford University/Lucille Packards Site, for example. 2) The military recruiters told me this in person, though it is not on the websites. Their rationale was that people who can arrange clinicals may arrange them with friends, etc. In any case, clear any program with your recruiter before applying/registering. The military programs have gotten very competitive so they can be picky. Good luck.

California recently enacted legislation that required BSN programs to design a curriculum that allowed for an ADN nurse to receive their bachelor's in a year. If there are places that are questioning online programs, the Board of Nursing should be aware to either educate employers about Online/Distance learning or re-design currirculums. The Board also approves nursing education before the institution can award degrees. Advanced Nursing Education is becoming more of a hot topic as more ancillary positions start to pop up and as the public continues to confuse anyone in scrubs as a nurse (like medical assistants). Nurses are working hard to distinguish our role as a profession and one way they feel they can accomplish that is making advanced education the standard.

Most online programs require state licensure prior to admission. If you're a new grad, don't take an online program until after you have a job, since it sounds like they won't take you if you just graduated from the online program. :lol2:

Hi...I, too, am interested in this program. Does anyone know how many clinical hours are required? And can someone explain the cost to me? I have reviewed csudh.edu and see $250 per unit. If a class is 3 units does that mean it would be $750? Thank you for your reply!

It's my understanding that there is only ONE Clinical class. I can't remember if you come to campus or arrange something with a hospital? The SON Handbook and Newsletter have more information. I HIGHLY recommend reading through that material to get a better idea of the curriculum.

I think fees are based on your status at time of registration. If you take 3 units, you pay for part time status because you're taking less than 6 Units. http://www.csudh.edu/schedules/fa10/fees.htm

HI, I know this thread is old but you guys are probably done with the program or in progress.

I hope that you guys can answer some of my questions. Their website does not really give a lot of information.

I just got accepted at dominguez hills for fall 2012 program. (boo for waiting 1 whole year to start the program)

Any answers will be greatly appreciated

1. It says maximum of 70 units to transfer and 120 units minimum to graduate. So the whole program is about 50 units? So how long did it take you guys to finish it. I was planning to finish it in 3 to 4 semesters.

2. I already take statistics, they will take that credit right i dont have to take it again?

3. Also, did someone looked at your transcripts in the beginning and help you plan so you know what courses to take for the entire program?

sorry if i have a lot of questions. i just want to be prepared.

thanks in advance

I just applied a few days ago. How long ago did you apply and how soon after did you find out you were accepted? How were you notified? Any idea how many students are accepted into the class?

Thanks!! I hope I wasn't too late and can get in too.
