Copper Mountain College in Joshua Tree

U.S.A. California

Published

Hello Everyone,

I am getting ready to apply to the nursing program this Fall and after months of research I was able to find a school in the high desert here in Southern California that offers the RN-ASN program with no outrageous waiting list. I am currently in the San Fernando Valley and the waiting list for the local schools out here is about a 3 to 4 year wait. I've been in school for far too long so I am determined to finish this as soon as possible. I am willing to move anywhere as long as I don't have to wait 3 to 4 yrs.

My initial question is, Did anyone out there attend Copper Mountain College for the nursing program? Also, is anyone out there currently attending Copper Mountain for the program? I just need some feedback since I am not familiar with the school or the area. My last question is if you are from the area what cities are best to live in? I Googled Joshua Tree and it seems very isolated which isn't necessarily a bad thing considering I am sick and tired of the hustle and bustle of the city. Any feedback is appreciated. Thanks a ton!

Carmen,

Do you know if you are allowed to apply to both programs? LVN and RN at Copper Mountain? Also if you complete the LVN program at Copper will you need to start the RN program from scratch if you do get accepted? I called the school with these questions but I'm waiting to hear back from them. (Hope I make sense lol)

The lady at the office was the one who suggested I apply for the LVN when my RN application didn't get accepted. So, I scrambled to get my High School transcripts from Oregon so I could apply before the march 31 deadline. So, I'm assuming it doesn't matter if you apply for both... as I did, but got turned down for the RN. You have one day left girly, March 31 is the deadline for the applications to be turned in. Program starts June 2010. Since I just turned my in on the 23rd, I have a feeling I didn't get in because alot may have applied and mine wasn't turned in earlier, but hey, at least I tried and I'll be full force next year..lol.

One thing that I think may have put me in a disadvantage for the RN is that I was using my San Diego address as I wasn't moved here yet. I think they tend to favor those within Morongo Basin than those out of towners..(though just my speculation).. because if it the RN was "easy" or quick to get in, why was my application turned down? You know what I mean, grades are good, I had histroy with Copper Mountain...I sent my RN application in the same day they accepted applications..I mean it made no sense to me at all..... So, I'm thinking all the ones who were living here probably got priority over me... who knows though, I'll never know.

Anyways, next october is coming and I'm armed..lol... I live here now so next time I'll want a better explanation than just a you were not accepted...lol.

Good Luck girlie..

Carmen

Hi Carmen27,

I didn't know how else to get in contact with you but I was wondering if you were accepted into the LVN program at Copper Mountain? I also had a question for you. I'd love to hear from you. Hope everything is going well.

No I didn't get into the LVN because I didn't know I needed Pharmacology as a pre-requirement & suggested Medical Terminology. I did Terminolgoy in the summer and doing Pharmacology right now. So by the time I apply for the LVN, I will have everything I need this time. Also, I applied for the Rn today..my time on the application was 7:30am so I'm happy about that..at least it will be looked at. I heard from some of the ladies this morning as we were waiting at the post office, that over 200 people applied last year to the RN program. This Oct, they are expecting it to double! YESSSS, not easy getting into this program now. They only accept 36 of those. Very Competitive now, regards of what the lady at the desk tells you!lol.

Hello everyone,

I am applying to the RN program at Copper Mountain College this October. I am looking at their requirements and have just downloaded the application. However, I am unsure of whether or not I have to apply to the school first before applying to the program. Does anybody out there know? Also, does anybody know anything about the waitlist, such as how many students are currently waiting? I just applied to Mt Sac and was placed on their waitlist. My wait there will probably be for another two years, which is a very longggg time. So I am hoping it's a shorter wait time here at Copper Mountain College. Please let me know, I would really appreciate it. Thanks!

At copper mountain college last year over 200 people applied so they say. If you are going to send in your application you better hurry up cuz 10 people were inline early oct 1 mailing out their applications ..VERY early. I left at 6:30am and got my envelope stamped at :7:31AM. I can guarantee you tons of people applied Oct1 with the earliest time stamp. They are only accepting 24 for the program and 8 for waiting list. You also have to have the score of 70 on the Chanellors rating school thingy....

Couldn't resist bumping this old thread. I was in a similar situation a few years ago. In 2010 I moved to Rapid City SD to go to SoDakState University. I got accepted into the BSN program right away and am graduating in a couple weeks. Lots of people from CA and WA come here since those programs are so impacted. Just an FYI if you really are willing to move ANYWHERE.

Hi,

I am currently in the same position but I got accepted any suggestions on finding cheap rent while in the program nearby the school?
