U.S.A. California

Hi! I'm starting this thread for people who are starting the RN program at COC for Fall 2012. I'm so excited i was chosen and can't wait for the orientation and to finally begin the program.

-------- did say that we will be in school five days a week during our first semester. I don't remember if it was she who said that the first semester is the hardest.

@workingstudent the dean did say it was going to be the hardest and 5days a week for at least 8weeks, i think mayelvn is in the bridge program because thats the wrong info i posted earlier from a girl i work with who said it was 3days a week i didnt know she started in 3rd semester. There are programs that are only 3days a week from the start, i dont know why we are going to have to go 5. I hope she was just saying that to kind of weed out the Not-So-Serious people.

Heads up, alternates! I got my acceptance letter from GCC today!! Got into their Weekend/Evening program...my first choice out of the four schools I applied for! So excited! I will be declining my seat at COC shortly. So nice to meet some of you at orientation. Enjoy your summer before school starts in the Fall...GCC starts in JUNE!! Looks like I will be rolling my backpack along the hills of Glendale instead of Valencia. Hurray! Everything is right in my world now. :yelclap: Congrats to all accepted, and hang in there to all of you still waiting!

Wow they start early :) I am looking forward to haning out with my kid and going on vacation while I still have the time and brain power this summer. Good luck to you @nurseoftheworld.

@nurseoftheworld, so exciting, i think i met you at coc orientaion, if i am correct, did we sit together with another girl?

Yeah, that was me, I think! Just a bunch of mommies going to nursing school! Good luck to you, SoCalmommy and 37 and counting! Yeah, no rest for the weary...we start on June 19th at GCC! But at least they will be setting up our fire life safety class and CPR this summer as well. Enjoy your summers! I'll be hitting the books!!

@nurseoftheworld CONGRATULATIONS, im very happy for u, too bad we wont go through the program together but keep us updated. @socalmommy glad u joined us! Yeah i was the other girl. Have u turned in everything yet?

H&M Mama...

Hello, I'm sorry I wasn't able to respond right away... I believe for the core courses, which in 1st semester is Nsg 112 and 114, you get 3 days/ week like I stated before. This 3 days/week applies to all core course until go reach 4th semester. It is the electives like Pharmacology and Skills that adds the days, so the total days you will be attending classes are 5 days/ week. Plus, there are the "one day only" lectures/ labs that are mandatory to be attended.

Has everyone already turned in everything for the program? It was a pain getting all that stuff especially my medical records but thank god it over with!:) I was thinking of getting a head start in studying for first semester over the summer and I know the material that will be covered because my friend started this spring and told me what is covered in first semester. If anyone is interested let me know?

So, I had my counseling appt today @ COC just to see if there were any other grad requirements that I needed to take and I found out that I have to take comm 101 (public speaking), instead of the comm 103 (process of communication) which I've already taken. Has anyone else (who has been attending AVC) been told this by a COC counselor? I'm a little bummed! Oh well, that's what summer is for, right?! O_O

It was indeed a pain gathering the information, especially since I couldn't find my immunization record from school. I also had a harrowing experience upon finding out just last week that Kaiser did not perform the 10-panel drug test that they assured me they would last month, when I submitted the specimen. Luckily, I still had time to do it through U.S. Healthworks. Thank God! :thankya:

@mbragasin - I would love to know what we are going to learn 1st semester and what books we will be using if you have an idea. My email is [email protected].
