  1. The wait is truly unbearable. I have had all my fingers and toes crossed since interviewing. No rejection letter and no offer yet. But since I haven't gotten the rejection, I consider myself still in the game!!
  2. Crystal, I bought the bundle from the bookstore. Plus I got my Fundamentals book online for a couple bucks cheaper than the bookstore. I also just bought my shoes and white pants. Luckily, my mother in law gave me one of her stethoscopes! Lots of expenses....
  3. Congrats, Tulipsonia! Yeah, so weird to receive a call instead of an email or letter from LAVC, but you're in! I will more than like be declining my seat at LAVC. I have already bought my books for GCC summer session...over $300!!! Ugh. Oh well, we knew this coming in, right? And, seeing how numbers go at Pierce, I bet they will be calling me soon, since I am only #19 on their wait list. I will decline there, if need be. I am super excited for GCC. The orientation seemed very personal, and our administration and office staff in nursing department have been very approachable. I have already started reading my massive Fundamentals in Nursing textbook. Back to reading now...Good luck, all!!!
  4. Wow, I just found out today by phone that I was also accepted to LAVC! Oh my goodness...I cannot believe I got accepted there, too! I declined my seat at COC, I accepted at GCC, and will be starting classes next week, and now here comes LAVC telling me to pick up my packet tomorrow! Ugh. I have been set on GCC night/weekend program, but LAVC is only 2 miles from my home! Anyway, I guess I will go ahead and pick up the packet and hopefully go to orientation to learn more about their program. Oh well, thank goodness for options! Oh, and GERMY, I would do LAVC just based on their NCLEX pass rate. It is about 10% higher than Pierce, if I remember correctly. Although, I have to say that in speaking with LAVC today, they seem a bit unorganized and kinda rude on the phone actually! At least they had good news for me at the end of the conversation!
  5. Nope, no summer break for us at GCC! But, this is the way they save our sanity, I hear. We will have to do this summer session, and also one winter intercession before our fourth semester. But the other breaks, we will have off. From current GCC students, I have heard that the way they spread it out is a lifesaver. Anyway, attended the GCC orientation today, and I spoke with several other students who are waiting on LAVC! So, some people have heard already?? Hmmmm...
  6. SoCalCrystal, I think I felt the same way about GCC vs. COC as you felt about GCC vs. LAVC. Having attended the COC orientation last month, I feel like this orientation with ------------- was much more personable and intimate. She did a good job of giving us just enough information, but not overwhelming us! I also like that she was attuned to the fact that we really wanted to know what to expect schedule-wise. ----------------- was very specific with us...I now have an actual day/time frame that I can look forward to for Fall. I am excited to start next week, and just need to go get my bundle of books! Denise, I almost went back over the bridge to go to the bookstore, but decided to let that $209 sit in my bank account for an extra day. :) Haha! But, can't wait too long---gotta start reading those chapters!!
  7. Seriously! When is LAVC sending out their acceptances already?? Oh well. I have orientation for GCC tomorrow, and we actually start class on the 19th!! So, if by chance I get another acceptance at LAVC, I wIll already be in school at GCC! Tulip, congrats on Pierce...I am #19 on their wait list.
  8. Thank you for answering our questions, SoCalCrystal! That's awesome of you. I will go on that camping trip since it is probably one of the last times I can get away with my family before things get super heavy in the Fall! And thanks for the info about GCC vs. LAVC. Still waiting on that acceptance letter from them, but pretty confident GCC is where I will be. Hearing you say that they seem more accommodating regarding your child helps me so much. DeniseNike, I, too, have 2 little ones! I really think we aren't alone. The night/weekend program is going to help me so much in that area, since I can still do drop offs and pick ups and trade off responsibility with my husband and mother. But, I know it is still gonna be SO MUCH work and sacrifice!! The only thing LAVC has going for it, is that it is only 2 miles from my house! Oh well. Orientation is tomorrow...super excited!
  9. All of the colleges are super competitive! Have you considered retaking some of your science courses to bring up your GPA? I know that it seems like tons of work to repeat, but it will help you a lot when it comes to getting your name drawn. I was lucky enough to get a 4.0 in my sciences, plus a 89% TEAS score. So much sweat and tears came with that, but it was worth it to have options of choosing schools! :) But, if you are unable to repeat them, I know that you are not alone. I have heard that LATTC is a little more relaxed about grades and do more of a "first come, first served" acceptance. You should also check out that option. GOOD LUCK to you!! Hopefully, LAVC will let us know soon. I already declined my seat at COC, and I am about 99% sure I am going to GCC night/weekend program. However, I live only 2 miles away from LAVC...so that might make me think twice!
  10. Yes, thank you so much for the info, SoCalCrystal! Really appreciate you putting your help out there! I have a question regarding this first round of summer classes...are they really tough since they are short courses, or are they more of "get your feet wet" classes? I know one of them is dosages and the other is nursing perspectives. I am thinking of calling off a camping trip for my family had planned over July 4th weekend because I think I will be swamped with studying! Anyway, any input you have would be great. I, too, noticed that not a lot of people have been posting here...which leads me to believe that lots of people are declining. That is good, since everyone should go where they feel the best fit. I think people are thrown by the night/weekend schedule if they get it and weren't expecting it. As for me, it is the best possible fit. I woulda done COC if I didn't get any other acceptances, but so happy for GCC! @Denisenike--are you day or night/weekend??
  11. Well, I did my drug screen and Live Scan today! Now, just gotta wait until orientation. I am so excited to finally get this show on the road! I declined my seat at COC, I am waitlisted #19 at Pierce, and LAVC hasn't sent out acceptances yet...but as far as I am concerned, it's GCC all the way! I really like the campus, and I guess I can look at the parking situation as an opportunity to work out! Those steps are awesome! Haha. I feel so fortunate and am anxious to start. Look forward to meeting some of you in a few weeks!
  12. I applied there, as well as COC, GCC, and Pierce. I got acceptances at both COC and GCC, and am wait listed #19 at Pierce. I don't think LAVC will send out acceptances until June. Long wait, I know. Hope you applied to other schools for back up?
  13. No prob, Denisenike! With it starting so soon, I wanted to find out as much as possible. I mean, geez, our orientation is a week before we start school?!! I am sure that is where we will find out all the rest...uniforms, name badges, shoes, books....aaaahhhhh! I did reconsider my acceptance at COC for a minute, since that would mean the summer off, but Glendale has been my first choice since I started this whole nursing thing. The night/weekend schedule will save my sanity, and work so much better for my family. Hooray!
  14. Yeah, that was me, I think! Just a bunch of mommies going to nursing school! Good luck to you, SoCalmommy and 37 and counting! Yeah, no rest for the weary...we start on June 19th at GCC! But at least they will be setting up our fire life safety class and CPR this summer as well. Enjoy your summers! I'll be hitting the books!!
  15. FYI, just called nursing office at GCC. Summer schedule as follows: class starts on June 19th. We only have class Tues and Thurs for summer. All lecture, no clinicals. Same schedule for both day program and night program. Tuesday's from 12-205 pm, and Thurs from 12-345 pm. They have set up CPR, and Fire Life Safety Class for us as well. There will be class through July 4th week...so no long weekend! Hope this info helps everyone! Good luck to everyone headed off to different schools! Also feeling so fortunate to have acceptances on my first go around. Love it!
