1. im honestly considering going to this school. ive always been a bit skeptical though. especially since its so expensive. can anyone give me an idea of how much it would cost for me to go there. ive already taken all my pre reqs. i only need to take the teas. i also have an AA.
2. can anybody help me. online they are asking for copies of the course syllabus for those who took the classes outside of glendale. has anyone done this? i dont think i can get a copy of my anatomy syllabus since the professor retired 3 years ago
3. hey willowita, i looked into it and yes it would be very expensive. yes im thinking about applying but the whole transportation thing is whats keeping me from applying. it doesnt hurt to try though and like you said, maybe i can get a car by then.
4. hey guys, just a quick question, does anyone know whats the best way to get to county transportation wise? i live near pierce college (woodland hills) i dont have a car at the moment so transportation is a bit of a hassle for me. from what ive checked online, i would have to take 4 buses.....
5. here there! no i didnt get into LAVC but i am applying to Glendale and maybe County in the next couple of weeks since their application period already started. i am also applying in the spring to valley, moorpark, city etc......:) i hope that the fact that i just became a CNA helps me out.
6. where did you end up finishing the program? it kinda sucks because pierce would be ideal since i live 5 mins away. but after hearing and reading so many bad things, i dont really care about having to travel somewhere far as long as the program is good.
7. does anyone know when the next application period for GCC is? I cant seem to find it online. thanks!
8.
Prospective students also beware that County's program is not NLNAC accredited. What does this mean? That many hospitals, including the VA and Kaiser, [u']will not hire you. Something to consider!mmmm that interesting. i wonder if county is the only school who isnt NLNAC accredited. anyways, after reading so many comments on here about countys not so great nursing program, i dont know if i should apply. anybody else here applying during july-august?
9. well i havent received a call nor an email *starts crying* lol its ok though. im quite busy with a CNA class, hopefully this gives me a boost for next yrs application. once again, congrats to those that got in!
10. i was at the graduation which was like 2 maybe 3 weeks ago. not many were graduating. plus i heard from people who have attended there and also from a counselor there that the program isnt that great. (teachers arent very supportive, expect WAYYY to much from students. arent very flexible.) for example, ive been reading many great things about glendale. but pierce, not so many.
11. congrats darlene! i wonder if anyone has gotten in with a 2.0 gpa?
12. congrats on getting in! i know i should be positive but i just have a feeling i wont get in. lol theres always next time. wow GCC starts soo early! goodluck! keep us informed on how it goes. my gpa is actually not great at all. GERMY, honestly i havent really heard any good things about the program at pierce. teachers are way to strict and not very friendly. teachers there basically tell you straight up that you wont even pass the course. (arent teachers supposed to be positive?) from the 50 people that get into the program, only about 15 actually graduate.
13.
The people who actually 1) graduate from the program or 2) graduate on time from the program without having to retake one or more semesters would probably agree with your statement that County has the "best" program in L.A. The problem is, these people (the ones who don't fail at least a semester or get kicked out of the program entirely) represent a teeny-tiny minority of the students that actually attempt County's program. To put things in perspective for you, there were about 60 students in my first semester class. By the time the class graduated, there were less than 10 left from that original group. Therefore, over 80% of students who entered the program either failed out of it or dropped because they were failing. Of those that fail or drop, maybe half of them come back and actually graduate. But, even if they do come back, they are now a semester or a year or in some cases 2 years behind. That really hurts people financially and personally in terms of lost money (since you have to pay to repeat), lost wages (since you usually have to take time off work), sacrificed family time you can't get back, etc. And don't think, "I'm smart so that won't happen to me." Believe me, it's not always about how smart you are because I've seen people with advanced degrees from reputable universities fail theory and I've seen some of the best students in theory get failed from clinical. The clinical experience you get in 4th semester is somewhat comparable to working as an RN since you are expected to competently and independently care for a full load of patients. However, that's where the problem lies, in my opinion. As a student, you are being pushed into a situation that you are not ready for. This results in one of three things happening -- 1) you either learn to hide mistakes from your instructor so you don't get failed and graduate with permanent PTSD, 2) you make a mistake you can't hide and you get failed, or 3) the stress/worry/sleep-deprivation/workload (because you are still expected to complete clinical paperwork on all 4-5 pts every day) are too much for you and you quit. I am not trying to be negative or squash the dreams of people who have their hearts set on this school. I am trying to present the reality of this school as I experienced it so students can make an informed decision on whether or not to attend the program. Had I known the 80% failure rate when I started, not to mention the downright hellish clinicals, would I have gone to another school? Most definitely. In the end, you have the same degree for a lot less grief. Good luck to those of you who do choose County. You will need it! thank you for all of the info! i really appreciate it. ANY nursing program is going to be tough however, from what you wrote it seems as if LA county is making it a bit too hard for their students. i understand that this profession is not easy but they shouldn't act the way your describing it. I've heard about other programs like glendale and ventura who seem to have great teachers/program. these programs are so tough. teachers should encourage their students. ive known this counselor for about 4 years and she basically encouraged me not to apply to LA pierces nursing program because the teachers literally tell their students "you wont make it". its pretty sad actually. especially since they have been where we are today and they know how hard it is. anyway, do you happen to know what are the gpa's of the people who get in to county? online it says overall 2.0 and that's pretty low especially since their program seems to be quite challenging.
14. im guessing they already let some people know because i have a friend who was told today that she got in. (her first time applying) i have a feeling i wont get in (due to my grades) but you guys should be getting a call soon. :)
15. congrats to all who got in! just wondering, what school did you guys apply too and what was your gpa?
