U.S.A. California

Hi! I'm starting this thread for people who are starting the RN program at COC for Fall 2012. I'm so excited i was chosen and can't wait for the orientation and to finally begin the program.

Does anyone have clinicals tw at holy cross with ***** ******? That's the group I got chosen in!!

I will be at Kaiser PC.

So I was looking at the booklist today and OMG!! My friend gave me a number of books but many of them are 1 edition off. Anyone know if there is a big change in the fundamentals of nursing books between edition 6 and 7?

Hi! I just got accepted in COC's Fall 2012 program as well. I'm pretty sure we're all gonna be studying together. I live in Northridge and half of the week I stay in Pacific Palisades, does anybody live around here?

Congrats Rishybugg!! I'm going to be at Henry Mayo, so excited couldnt have asked for a better 1st semester. I was looking up some of the books too and our two volume med-surg pack on Amazon is from 150-999 dollars! I hope COC has it cheaper than a grand :/ Does anybody know why they said were going to school 5 days a week? I only have a 4 day/wk schedual. Im not complaining! Just curious.

I know if you check amazon its about 999, which does not make sense at all, i looked at the COC bookstore and they have the same book (spring semester 2012) which is the same for (fall 2012) at less than a 200, so definitely a smarter option.

If you take a look again at your Schedule, the first part of the semester is definitely 5 days a week with either set of Teachers. And the second part (which starts in October) should be less than 5 days a week.

My Clinicals are at Holy Cross, but i have the same instructor as you in Theory :-)

Hello Fellow COC students:

I'm about to start my third semester so let me know if you have any questions. First semester was definitely the most difficult. You will have 4 days of lecture/clinical and depending on your instructor's or the hospital requirements, you may have to go to your hospital another day to research your patient history/meds for clinical the next day. Second semester through the end of the program you will have only three days of school, one 10 to 12 hour clinical day and two days of lecture. Lectures are usually around 3 hours. For those of you who have a lecture professor who's last name begins with the letter -------, you are lucky. She is AMAZING!

Good luck to all.

Thank you "nice Day" I have heard a lot about ----------, I have her for theory. The department is recommending us to take the success for the 112 class, how was it (if you took it) and was it very beneficial to you?

Hi mbragasin, I'm in your group. :) Very glad to have been assigned to Holy Cross 'cause it's very close to home.

Does anyone know if we're allowed to use electronic versions of the textbooks?

Idon't know about electronic copies, but I did ask the instructors about older versions of books. I was advised via email that the last version of calculate with confidence and the 1st version of the videos would be fine (and they are both much cheaper on Amazon). Also, we are allowed to use the last version of the fundamentals book, but it would require more effort as we will have to search for the info rather than just go off of the page numbers given - I got the impression they were advising against it. Most current versions of Davis's drug guide and most current version of Nursing Diagnosis were recommended. *** I was given this information in response to an email I sent and I am in no way recommending it - I just thought I would share as an FYI.
