Hey all,

Just thought I'd start a thread for those of us hoping to get into CHOC in Feb. Apps were post on the 15th. What did everyone apply for? Are you local or out of the area? Any connections with CHOC? Let's hope we all get hired =)

I'm coming from out of state after graduation in Dec. I'm originally from Sacramento and really want to live in So Cal for a few years and love choc. I love the area it is in (hello, 5 min from Disneyland!) I am already PALS certified and have a previous degree in healthcare administration, so I'm hoping that will help with getting a call. I put oncology as my first and med/sug as my second. I didn't get the chance to speak with HR regarding # of positions, but hopefully those areas are in need! Good luck to everyone applying!!

I'm applying for PICU and NICU... I'm from sac too! I just hope I get a call back. I've been applying for jobs since Feb (before I graduated) and still no job :( Let's hope my experience working with kids helps! Good luck everyone :)

I'm from Roseville, so your hometown is close to mine! I actually got my BSN degree from Chico State. What state are you coming in from?

I'm coming from Nebraska. I got a degree in health care admin from sac state and then applied in California for a second degree, got waitlisted, so I looked out of state. Found Creighton in Omaha, Nebraska and was accepted in no problem. its a 12 month BSN, so I'm very excited to be almost done with it. It was been mild torture for the past 9 months!

I've heard about those 12 month accelerated BSN programs! I'm glad to hear that you're surviving! I'm guessing you're going to be applying for CA licensure? Hows the job market in Nebraska for new grad RNs?

I applied for a NICU spot. Do you think just having my ADN (vs a BSN) will decrease my chances of getting a spot?

I'm not sure... California is pretty competitive right now and I think having anything higher will give you a leg up. Also CHOC is a magnet hospital and it seems like magnet hospitals prefer BSNs. I would still try though! It never hurts to throw in an application! Also, if you have other related experience, that would help out too.

Yes, it has been a tough program for sure, but it's also nice to just knock it all out! I'll be applying for my CA license. I'm just hoping it doesn't take forever to get my ATT from pearson. Jobs in this area (Omaha) are rough, there are like 6 nursing schools in Omaha alone, so there is no shortage of nurses for the hospitals. Plus only one hospital has a Versant program, so there's not many openings for new grads.

Nope, no responses yet. I think I put PICU as my #1 though. Would the nurse recruiter know how many positions are open in each unit?
