CCSF ADN Program Fall 2014

U.S.A. California

Just found out I'm #76 on the list for CCSF's RN program for Fall 2014.

Anyone else in this lottery? Thoughts? Comments?

Not so sure what I should be thinking/feeling at this moment, lol.

Rn_miasmommy,

At this point, I am in the same situation as you are. With a daughter going to school and such I am leaning towards ccsf and will attend there next fall! I hope to see you there

When you have little ones to think about, it's definitely not an easy choice! There are many things I love about csm, but the long drive and the constant change of schedule makes it really hard for me. I know you were worried with ccsf because of clinical sites but I spoke with the director this week and she assured me we will have a third spot for clinicals.

Thanks, RN_miadomsmommy!! Have you decided your plans? :)

Nope, not yet. But ccsf is becoming more of the obvious choice and I have yet to hear one bad thing about the program.

Hey guys I just graduated from the CCSF program a month ago. I loved it. If you have any questions I'd be more then happy to answer them for you.

I'm currently cramming to take my nclex next week and am starting the masters program at sf state this August.

Congratulations on surviving nursing school!!! So awesome you're even already in Master's program. I will beginning in august and I'm so nervous. Trying to get my math in order and start my reading. What suggestions/tips/advice do you have for us? Anything is greatly appreciated :)

Hi everyone, I was just wondering if any of you bought the books/Ebooks yet? Any recommendations so far as to how to study and also what you like/don't like about the Ebooks?

Thank you!

I wouldn't worry too much about the med math. You get an additional two chances to pass if you fail the first time and I honestly didn't find it difficult at all. I just did the practice questions they gave us, I didn't use the math book. In regards to the readings, honestly, I didn't really read the textbooks I focused mainly on the lecture notes and PowerPoint's. That was all I needed to pass all the exams, but it depends on what kind of student you are. The only time I used the textbook was to reinforce electrolytes/acid & bases and pharmacology.

I would definitely recommend finding a study partner or group of friends it really helps reinforce information and motivates you to study harder.

The nursing staff at city college are all very nice and definitely want you to succeed. They have office hours and I would take advantage of that if there's something you did not understand in class. I would definitely stay in touch with nursing instructors you have every semester because after you graduate you will need letters of recommendation for potential jobs and future education.

Also 2nd semester look into the ccsf nursing scholarship they give it to 2nd/3rd semester students. Its called the Felicia Chow scholarship you can ask Helen the awesome office manager about that.

Theres so much to say about the nursing program but honestly it went by so fast, I say enjoy your time with your classmates I definitely made some lifelong friends. Also I would not worry about clinical placements they are very good about figuring those out for students. I enjoyed most of the rotations I had and I got placed at good hospitals. I was at SFgeneral, Laguna Honda, UCSF Mt Zion, UCSF Langley Porter and UCSF Benioff. I know city college also utilizes CPMC and some Kaiser hospitals for last semester preceptorships.

Also I highly recommend you apply for San Francisco States RN-BSN bridge your third semester or if you already have a bachelors apply for the masters!

Let me know if you have any more specific questions.

Hi Wonimal,

Congratulations! I would like to know how 2nd semester is like! In addition, can you tell us about the RN-BSN bridge and MSN program? Thank you for much. Good luck on your NCLEX, and please let us know the result.

Hi Wonimal,

Thank you so much for sharing your experience! I am starting CCSF nursing this Fall and kind of nervous but excited. I have a few questions though: how is it going with a job placement? Do you have any options right now? Does.the school help you with that?

Also, did you get your Bachelors while going to CCSF? And which school?

Thank you! And good luck to you with NCLEX! :-)

For those of you accepted into the program fall 2014, what did you do for the influenza requirement on Certified Background since it's not flu season? I forgot what they said at orientation

You can upload last year's flu shot and we need to upload this year's by October. I believe they said it will send us a reminder of when it's due. If you check I believe that one had an October due date unlike the rest that said august.

Hello, I'm anxiously waiting for my letter for next term. I was in the 10s as well, just wondering when you received your letter from CCSF?
