Calling All California ADN Nurses

Hello all! Im an aspiring nurse in the state of California. I have three semesters left in order to apply to my college's nursing program (Chaffey College). However I've heard that it's extremely hard to find a job as an ADN. Is this true? If I want to get my BSN I have at least 5 or 6 more semesters since BSN programs require more pre req's. I know it doesn't seem like that much longer but if I decide to go the BSN route I'd apply in 2018 plus 2 years nursing school. I've already been in school for 2 years... I just had a baby in March, I'm 21 & very anxious to just be done with school. I have No time to waste, my question is ADN's was it hard to find a job? Was getting your ADN worth it or should I just suck it up, take the long road & get my BSN?

Many new ADN grads in CA have to either work outside of a hospital, or relocate in order to get acute experience. I'm in an under served area (Central Valley) and we have new grads from all over the state relocate here to get the acute experience they need to find a job back home.

It probably depends on where you live. I live in Norcal and have my ADN. For me, it was worth it because I was able to start working and gaining experience. I am now about half way done with my RN-BSN and have been working in acute care.

You've been given information that may be tainted. I, and most of my classmates have started working in hospitals within months of receiving our RN (post ADN program). They have been hired at Dignity Health, County of LA, Prime Hospitals, Kaiser and Providence.

Also, being 21, you have plenty of time, lol. I started nursing school at 38, and I thought that way and it was more true for me, than many of my classmates who were in their early to mid 20's.

I was hired within a month of passing NCLEX and will hit 6 figures early next year.

Work hard, study hard and believe in yourself, that will take you places you never thought you'd go...

Don't mean to hijack, but am curious how CA is specifically looking at Central Valley, Modesto is with hiring ADN's? I have 5 years hospital experience and am looking to move out that way near the first of the year.

I've noticed some openings in the central valley. Especially California Dept of Corrections.

I know plenty that have graduated from rcc that get jobs right out of school
