Anyone goin for SDSU School of Nursing?

U.S.A. California

Heyyy everyone! I've been goin to these forums on and off since the past few months, and I'm finally making my first post, haha. Anyway, I'll be applying for the BSN/RN program at San Diego State Univeristy this fall for the Fall 09 semester. I was just looking at the point system and Jesus christ--I found out that the cut off for last year was 67 points out of a possible 77. This is just pushing me more to shoot for no less than A's in all the pre-req classes at MiraCosta Community College I'm takin right now.

So anyone else shooting for SDSU?! :w00t:

I was just browsing the SDSU nursing program criteria and realized.. did they change the point system or is it the site just not updated?

I guess it was updated =\ That puts me to about 68 points at the moment with the 5pts from volunteering. I need to finish my last part of ochem and A/P with an A and try to hit at least 85 on the TEAS to get at least 70pts. How disappointing :(

And the SDSU writing competency test- do we actually have to take exam on campus?

The chem course, though a prereq, isn't given any point value. The other science courses are 10pts max while the rest (psych, soc, oral comm.) are worth a max of 4 each.

I only took the TEAS once and got an 84.9% and I doubt it'll get any higher if I retake it since my English and grammar skills fail :( Hope that is enough to get the majority of the 15 possible points though.

I went to the information session and totally recommend it cuz it cleared up a lot of things for me. I initially thought that Ochem wasn't given points either, however, when I went to Dr. Nicodemus, she says that it does. For now (they will change it), Biology may count instead of Physiology (if you had an A in Biology, but B in Physio, they count 10 points for A in Bio), but the other sciences Anatomy, Micro, and Ochem definitely counts with 10 points max.

She also gave us a handout that broke down the TEAS score and points:

97-100 15 pts

93-96 14 pts

89-92 13 pts

85-88 12 pts

81-84 11 pts

75-80 10 pts

below 75 0 pts

For the past 3 or so years, the criteria has changed every year. Whenever you declared prenursing major (coined as your "catalog year"), you have a chance of going by THAT criteria. You also have a chance of going by the newer criteria, whichever one gives you the better chance of getting in. From what I understand, you don't need to officially ELECT a criteria, the nursing school will automatically go with the one that gives you the better chance.

Yes, it's an essay exam that I think all CSU schools implement. You will get more info once the university admits you.

Thanks for the update, must appreciated.

Thanks for the new info, Water! By any chance, does anyone have the file that showed the criteria/points breakdown from the previous year? Thanks!

I'm going to try for sdsu this fall but I don't think I am going to make the cutoff. I'm going to finish up o-chem, spanish, statistics, and critical thinking course. I'm nervous but I've been on the CC waitlists for two years already so i'm bound to get in somewhere this fall. Well keep posting because I'm interested on how everybody does. Good luck to all!
