Phoenix job market for (newish) ED RN's these days...?

U.S.A. Arizona

Hi all -

I've been checking this board & Phoenix job listings for a while, trying to get a sense of the job market. Most of my family is in Phoenix and I'm really hoping to live there. Making a move seemed impossible as a new grad - I didn't get even one interview, and I wasn't seeing a ton of openings even for experienced nurses - so I'm trying to be patient. I stayed put and got a job where I graduated (fortunately in the ED, my first choice).

I'm finally starting to see more job listings in the Phoenix area. When I start applying, I expect to have 1-1.5 years of experience in a level 1 trauma center plus the relevant certifications (ACLS, PALS, TNCC, and hopefully CEN). I'm obviously still a newish grad. I do have a BSN if that helps, and I'm also a fluent Spanish speaker.

What's your sense of the job market, Phoenix RNs? Do you think I'd have a reasonable chance at getting a full-time position in an ED? Or will they still be looking for more experience?

Specializes in cardiac/education.

I think you will need more. Just don't move until they hire. ;)

I'm also looking to possibly move to the Phoenix area but from the limited looking I've done so far it looks like there are lots of opportunities! Most of the job descriptions I've seen so far specify that they want at least a year of experience in the specialty you apply for, which it sounds like you have. Go for it. Good luck!

If you have at least one year of experience, I think you should be OK. I am a new grad BSN and it took me 4 months to find a job.

Specializes in ER.

You shouldn't have any problem finding a job. I just moved to Phoenix about a month ago and had 2 job offers almost immediately. I only have a year of ED experience (and a year of med-surg) but am still finishing my RN to BSN program, which I expected would be the biggest problem finding a job. A few of the ED's are even offering up to 10,000 sign on bonus's. I think as long as you have that year of experience and the certifications, you will be snatched up quick.

Specializes in Cardiac Care.

BSN, Bilingual, ER Certifications and more than 1 year of experience... will get you into many interviews here I'd suspect.
