Maricopa Comm College CEP Fall 2017 Uni/Spring 2018 CC Applicants

U.S.A. Arizona

HI -

Sorry if this is a repeat topic, but hoping to "meet" other applicants hoping to start their online university classes in Fall 2017 and CC in-person nursing blocks in Spring 2018.

Union-Jack, hopefully I'm just one semester ahead of you. I start this summer with university and fall at the community college.

Gotcha! OK, so you're off and running very shortly! I have two exams to complete this weekend, then once final grades post I'll be submitting my application (next week sometime). If I get a place, the university portion f the course will begin in the Fall, and Community College will be Spring 2018. So yes, exactly a semester behind you.

I'm hopeful, of course, but I've read so many posts about people not getting a place even with great GPAs and HESI scores etc., plus applications "going missing", and goodness knows what else.....that I won't be holding my breath! LOL!

I'm assuming with the deadline being May 31st, and that round of applicants will be starting in the Fall, that notifications will have to go out sometime in June or July so at least we won't be left hanging for too long!

How close is everyone else to getting their application in??

Hey all, so I have a "what would you do" question. I applied last year at PVCC for the CEP program, someone dropped the ball and I was not placed as well as left completely in the dark. I decided to reapply for CEP last month for the application period ending May 31st. Because I've been on the waitlist for Maricopa this entire time they just offered me a spot at PVCC for this fall, but for the traditional ADN program. They also said they don't even see a CEP application on file for me, which is concerning to say the least. I spoke with placement and she basically told me I have two options; I can either turn down their offer and "hope" I get placed in the CEP program to start ASU this fall and Maricopa in the spring, or I could just go ahead and accept my placement and apply to start my BSN in block three. I have no idea which way to go, so what would you guys do?

Accept! Doesn't NAU offer a "later" CEP start option for students starting Block 3 now? Unless they stopped doing it, they were still advertising it at the nursing orientation I went to mid to late last year. Look in to that, I'm pretty sure they have the CEP entry for nursing students starting block 3, you don't graduate with your BSN at the same exact time, but think its only a semester or 2 after your ADN.

*I just went to the nursing homepage & looked at the CEP section & they do still show the NAU BSN mid AAS. I know you had mentioned ASU being your choice, but perhaps the mid entry start with NAU is a second option? Either way you go, good luck!

UIU also has an option to bridge in in Block 3 as well. :)

I wouldn't be surprised if more schools make it an option!

I had no idea UIU had started doing it too. The other universities as well as students could only benefit from doing mid AAS entries. Thanks for the info!

So - I noticed on the application that only certain classes are taken into account for your GPA. SO, does that mean you could have a great GPA with loads of A-grades, but the specific classes that Maricopa takes into account are B-grades, so your GPA with Maricopa is lower that your overall GPA?

I think I'm answering my own question here. My GPA overall is about 3.75, but if I only take the classes that are marked on the application is drops to about a 3.4 or less, because unfortunately I ended up with B's for my sciences. Every time I missed the A by literally 1 or 2%. In fact, one was 89.4%. Talk about frustrating!

Anyway - after all my hard work I'm thinking my "Maricopa GPA" may not be good enough for entry. UGH!!!!

Yes, they only calculate your GPA using the marked classes. I had a 3.45 and still got into my first pick to start this summer. Just do well on your HESI, have all your pre requisites done and hope for the best.

Thanks for clarifying. I did pretty well on the HESI, so hopefully that will help. I also have an Associates Degree, so I think that gives me an extra point.

Do you think they take into account your score for the critical thinking stuff they gave at the end of the HESI? They told me those sections weren't graded, but I wonder if they use that as a deciding factor if people are close on the points? I'm referring to the questions where they asked "what would you do" in terms of nursing type scenarios. I think the "score" (even though it wasn't counted as a HESI score) was out of 1000? Or 900 or something.

But either way you're right - I'll just have to apply and hope for the best like everyone else

Hi All -

I have a question about the Chemistry on the application for Maricopa. I took CHM130 and CHM130LL (lecture and lab, respectively). On my transcript they are considered a 3 credit class (lecture) and a 1 credit class (lab). However, on the application it is considered a 4 credit class, so what do you do? Do you add up all the points over the two classes, then divide by the possible points to get your overall % of the two classes? I don't get it.....and I'm filling in my application so I'd love to know! What did you guys do?

Thanks!!

p.s. I've written to Maricopa also.

Yes, I think it gives you an extra point. I had a previous Bachelor's so I'm assuming that helped get me placed as well. I didn't even take the critical thinking questions as they were optional, so no, I don't think they use those scored to help place. I don't know how to calculate the chem score... sorry!

Do any of you know if they still give a point for having the AGEC?

I don't know if they do, but it certainly can't hurt. I believe you get 1 point for a previous Associates Degree, and 2 for a Bachelors, 3 for Masters and so on.

Hi, this is my first time posting. I am going in to apply tomorrow for Glendale CC nights and NAU. I talked to an advisor 2 weeks ago and she told me to get my ASU transcripts because I'd get an extra 4 points for having a previous bachelor's degree.
