[quote=RainDreamer]Please don't just go by what people say though. I see things on here like "I've heard to stay far away from County" and that makes me just cringe! County isn't what it used to be (for those of you that were around in the "bad County" days, a lot has changed). I worked at County for about 6 months and I really loved it. The only reason I left is because I got a better offer in the exact unit I wanted. It was extremely hard to leave though because the people I worked with were AWESOME! The only reason I wouldn't want to be a patient there is because, like Hoozdo said, the rooms have up to 4-6 patients. But the people that work there do so because they like to and they like working with that particular patient population .... I know I did.[quote]

I have been at County for a year and a half, and for the most part, it's been a very good experience! Granted, I'm just a HUC, so I haven't personally experienced being a nurse there! But I work in the ER and LOVE it!!! I have never worked with a group of people that had such a team spirit as I have in the County ER, and they all love what they do! There is no "every man for himself" attitude, which I have seen on other units, at County and elsewhere! Everyone pitches in and helps their team when they have a few free moments. They even help me with orders if I'm bogged down and they are available, which totally amazed me, since sometimes getting the nurses to help the HUC isn't an easy feat! Yes, it's usually incredibly busy (which is a plus, since less downtime makes the nights go faster!) and yes, you get some patients which are a bit "not quite right" (to put it nicely), but it's never boring and it's a great learning experience. I will be starting nursing school in January (I finished my prereqs), and the nurses are always taking time to explain things to me and give me the benefit of their experience. I've even been able to observe during a trauma. (County has one of 5 Level 1 trauma centers in the Phoenix area.) Even the residents and interns (County is a teaching hospital) help out, and the attendings are awesome, as doctors and as people! No "God complex"...they are all great. When I get my RN, I am hoping to get hired on at County in their NICU, and I've already been told that I can extern there. Oh, and on the regular units (telemetry, med-surg, etc.), there are only 3 patients to a room in general. I have never admitted a patient to a room with more than 3 patients, and I do all the admitting from the ER to the floors at night. There are also quite a few private rooms. Bennies are good, including AZ State Retirement Fund. (Even though County is now a separate healthcare district from the Maricopa county system itself, we were still able to keep our retirement system with the state.) So don't rule County out, especially if you are interested in emergency medicine!!! I don't regret my decision to work there, and while I may say "I don't want to go to work" before I go, I love my nights there and enjoy my job!!!

there's nothing going on in Casa Grande. I was not treated well at Good Samaritan. Many recruiters I've talked to have gotten negative feedback as well. Heard good things about John C Lincoln. Am starting at Scottsdale, which may receive magnet status in September. I've heard to stay far, far away from County.
Interesting comments about Maricopa Medical Center, and why didn't you like it? I worked there for 5 yrs and loved it, I go back through agency once a week...

As you can tell, you well get SO many different replays to this question.. We are all different people and no all of the hospitals will work for just one person.

For me, St Joe's didn't work for at all, I went to Maricopa Medical Center and LOVED it there, I have done registay work and will not go back to Baptist, Maryville (there is a reason why its called Scaryville) Phx Memorial and Phx St Lukes. Now Tempe St Lukes was like a resort nice place, nice people...

They are all there still! Most of those nurses work day shift, and since I work nights, I don't work with them much, but I know all of them and they are great people. Dr. Blackburn is a hoot!!!! I work with him a lot when he's attending in ER at night (though he's been working a lot in PedsED lately.) He's one of my favorites...along with LoVecchio, Horwood & Sarko. And I love the residents, although most of them have probably changed since you worked there!

If you're ever working at County through agency (I don't know if you ever work nights), go through ER and see if Terre is listed on the assignment board as the HUC. If so, come and say hi! Did you know Lucille, Sara, Kim, or Marc (the day & swing shift HUCs)?

I work with Jason (Dr. Knight) a LOT!!! He's a good guy! Lucille is a sweetie...very funny...but very demanding! Told me my first night in ER that she expects the copier to be full when she comes in!!!! LOL But I took her at her word and make sure it's always done!!!!

I have heard too many bad stories about Maryvale (Scaryvale) to ever work there! I won't say what I've heard due to confidentiality, but Maryvale is at the bottom of my list!!!! I haven't heard anything about their ER though.
