I am 27 years old and thinking of switching careers to nursing. There is a new nursing school in Phoenix that opened last year. The cost of the whole program is about 26k but there is no waiting list. The student graduates with an AA. Has anyone heard of this school? Can someonne tell me something about this school and their program? I was told that University of Phoenix and Grand Canyon University does credit their courses if decided to go for BSN.

I've heard the opposite. Of course this is all just people talking, not any info from the school itself. I've heard it's expensive, no waiting list, but their courses do not transfer. Best to call the school and find out for yourself. Make sure to post what you find! :)

I did call the school and that is why they told me. I also talked to one of the students there and Iwas told the same thing. I tried to look for that info in their website but I didn't find any. I will keep you all posted if I hear anything.

Why not call ASU and see if they accept the transfer credits? I know Pima also started an RN program, but it was pretty unreasonable and they accepted basically no credits from other schools. So you had to retake classes. Plus, they weren't transferable so if you wanted to go on and get your BSN you couldn't.

I am currently getting ready to start my second block of Ethel Bauer's RN program. I find it is a good program. You'll get out of it what you put into it. Each block is 15 weeks with a week break in-between blocks. I have found that because it is a new program the administration is working out any kinks they may have. No big issues just little things like trying to accommodate the growing number of students, finding teachers, etc. Issues I believe most new programs would have. It is a little more expensive but for me I believe my time is more valuable and the sooner I graduate the sooner I can be working in a good career and moving on with my education as my ultimate goal is to get my Master's. For me waiting another year after taking the last several to do my prereqs was not an option.

As far as transfer credits, my situation is a little different as I have taken all my prereqs before entering their program at ASU and other community colleges so my credits will transfer over to a BSN, but I did do a lot of research before I accepted a position in their school just to be sure because I did not want to have that issue when I graduated. I contacted my old advisor at ASU and she said they would NOT accept the credits from Ethel Bauer. Any university and community colleges are regionally accredited. Institutions like Ethel Bauer and Pima Medical are nationally accredited and that's what keeps the credits from transferring between the different institutions.

I then contacted the AZ State Board of Nursing and Grand Canyon University and was told by Grand Canyon University that they are working on an articulation program with Ethel Bauer so students can continue their education and not loose any of those prereq credits. Also University of Phoenix states on their website they will accept courses from any school accredited by NLN (National League of Nursing) and I believe Ethel Bauer just received that accreditation. Again, check with Ethel Bauer on that one.

I would just say contact people at Ethel Bauer, AZ State Board of Nursing... they have someone who deals with info for schools and their accreditation and credits for students and could probably answer more of your questions... also University of Phoenix and double check with them.

Well, I was there couple of weeks ago and I'm not too impressed with the area and location. The outside of the school does not look reliable. How do you like the program? How's the schedule like? Do you know if there classes are going to be transferrable somewhere else? Is it still possible to work while in the program? Any information I can get will help. Thanks!

You really cannot let the area and location be a deciding factor for you. It is really a great program and school.. As for whether you'll be able to work or not - I guess it just depends on what prerequisites you have. Some people in my semester don't have to take psychology, anatomy, etc. so their work load and class room time is obviously less so they're able to keep their jobs. Others, like myself, have to take every class so working would be impossible. First semester's schedule isn't that bad, though. Second semester is a different story. Would you be entering the program as a CNA or LPN?

As far as I know, credits aren't currently transferable because of the accreditation.

Honestly though, I think it is an amazing school. The professors are amazing and will do anything in their power to help you succeed.

Yeah I too didnt like the area..Seems for the cost they would put more into the school- but nice to know they have a good program ! Would be nice to hear from someone who has graduated from the program so we know if they feel they recvd adequate training for the job, sometimes those types of schools just sign people up (like Apollo)
