Hey all, whats up with this pre-employment physical. Chest X-ray, lab work, titers??? What all is involved with this crazy thing. What is the Chest X-ray for, isn't a TB screen enough or is there something else? Lab work, is this just titers or are there other things involved? Seems all a little......intrusive.....yes/no?

It sounds like the physicals I've done for my jobs down here in California. Except I also have to pee in a cup so they can check for drug use:)

Yeah they have the drug test as well but I just wanna know for what they are testing, I don't care really I just think a lot of it seems rather unnecessary (X-ray/lab work if for more than titers). So does anyone know what tests ar they will be running?

That does seem a little excessive to me. I asked a couple of recent hires and they said all they were required to do was tb skin test, UDS, and either proof of heb b series or take the hep b series.

Yeah see I have no problem with that I can understand why you would want proof of titers and a UDS, I'll do those all day long. But I'm the type of person that believes that personal information is just that personal and unless it directly effects my ability to do my job then its none of your business. Lab work I wrote one of the guys at HR and asked them what was all involved. I don't like this !!!!!!

I just did a pre-employment physical for a hospital that I worked at for 10 years. Had been gone about a 1 1/2 years. I had to do: UDS, TB, titers for mumps, and then a physical consisting of lungs, abd, gait, bending and twisting. It was kinda bizaare but I passed.

The pre-employment physical.........

They do TB skin tests.......as for the blood work.......they are just testing for your titers for Hep B, if you have had the series......and MMR. They do a UDS, and you see an NP who does a basic physical to make sure that you have good range of motion, she listens to your lungs and heart......... thats all.

If you have had a titer drawn before, then all you have to do is fax them a copy...... same with a skin test.......if you have had one this year....fax them a copy. They wont do a chest x-ray unless you have previously tested positive on a skin test.

When do you start, or have you already??

UDS = urine drug screen

I had my tb titer from last year and had that faxed to them. Other than that it was just a UDS, blood work for hep, and the NP did a mini work up (ROM, cold stethoscope, etc)
