Quickest Way for Getting Things Done and Licensed in US

As most of you know, I have been recommending initial licensure in NY for quite some time. And for those of you that did not heed the warning, you now know why.

New York is three easy applications only, next you take the NCLEX exam, then you get a hard license and can endorse to almost any state afterwards. Because of the requirements of the Special Credentials Verification for New York, you do not have to do any of the running around to obtain your documents. CGFNS will obtain them for you....after you sign the release and send them the money.

NY also requires two short classes that can be done on-line, one on Child Abuse, and the other on Infection. Both are available for about $15 each and take only one hour or so.

NY BON application can be found at http://www.op.nyed.gov. You only need to submit "Form 1."

The Special Credentials Verification can be found at http://www.CGFNS.org, as well as the Visa Screen Application.

Once you have received documentation from NY that your credentials have been received and approved, submit payment to Pearson-Vue for the NCLEX exam. http://www.perasonvue.com. They are the ones that will actually send you the ATT letter, upon approval of the Board of Nursing. Be aware that this ATT (authorization to test) is only good for ninety (90) days. You will have onlt that amount of time to get the exam done in, otherwise you will lose your payment and have to start again.

Hope that this helps................ :balloons:

Most importantly, NY will issue you the license without a Social Security Number.

welcome................. :balloons:

hi.. this is one of the few visits i hav... and im concerned about my cousins case which is pretty much like the tread posted above... i will not reprhase it again, coz its pretty much like it... : the concern goes like this:

hi suzanne, please advice me on what to do. i am presently here in the us under a tourist visa. i passed the nclex for new jersey and completed all my english exams and visascreen. problem is, i don't have a social security number. the contact person told me to write a letter to the nj board, enclosing photocopies of my passport and visa, certifying that i am a foreigner, then wait whether, the board's judgement whether my license will be released or not. i have only 4 months of stay left here in the us. my question is, what happens if they don't release my license? if at all, do i have any alternatives? is there a way out of the fix that i am currently in? thanks very much

pls refer to the tread above who originally sent it...

thanks a lot for ur help...i know god will guide u and shower u with blessing a thousand fold... more power... :rotfl:

Depends if you get a job offer or not and which country that you are from.

If from one of the PIC countries, things are still on hold for any processing.

With the job offer, you will get issued a SSN#, and things will fall into place.

Thanks for all the great information!

Just wondering how the Minnesota licensing works?

Does it take long to receive results there?

I'm a bit closer to that state than NY.

Where you get initially licensed doesn't matter. Minnesota happens to be very quick for Canadians, but not for other foreign graduates. You will still need to do the Visa Screen application, so depending on if you are still in the area of where you went to school or not...........if not, then NY is easier because they will obtain all of your records for you.

I hope this fits in here and hasn't been answered a hundred times already...

I'm surprised about the latest processing times posted on the USCIS homepage. It states that the California Service Center is currently processing I-140 petitions filed on February 1st.

Does that mean, California isn't such a bad choice anymore to get things done in maybe not the quickest, but still a rather quick manner?

I already signed up with a California Hospital, my immigrant petition has been filed in March. I hold a US-RN license, a VisaScreen Certificate and have recently applied for Licensure by Endorsement to the Cal. Board of RN.

Thank's for your replies... :)

Specializes in Medical and general practice now LTC.

The problem will probably be with the Cal BON and how quick they issue you with your license. Once you have approval there are a few more stages to go before you can get your medical and interview plus some more fees to pay

You can actually get a temporary license issued for working in California that same day by physically going to Sacramento. The I-140 is just the beginning of the process.................they are still behind on that end due to the number of people that want to go to CA.

Also because of the retrogression that has been in place and a hold on processing of those papers etc., more have been able to be taken care of. But with that changing in the next few weeks, look for things to slow down again................

hi there,

Your website reference does not seem to be available for NY applications on http://www.op.nyed.gov.

Can you help me out?

Thankyou

Trish

I just added to the link above. Same thing that NY BON did. I wrote this several months ago. The information is still there. Since you are a foreign-trained nurse, you only need to complete Part I of the NY application. The rest is done with the CGFNS applications. Thank you for bringing it to my attention.

NY licensure requires three applications if you are a foreign grad. You also need the Special Credentials Verification done by CGFNS, as well as Visa Screen Certificate. CGFNS then does all of the work for you.......... :)

Hope that this helps............. :balloons:

Hi, suzanne,

Does CGFNS takes care of the Visascreen verification for me, when I apply for the Special Credentials Verification?

Thankyou , that worked and i have a new question that has just occurred to me. Do i need to be in the US to start the process or can it be done from New Zealnd?

Trish

You can do the whole process while you are in New Zealand, except for the NCLEX exam. Closest to you would be either Saipan, Hong Kong, or Seoul. Just depends on where you can get the best package for travel. :)
