What states in the US (at present) do not require a local license as part of the NCLEX application (before one can sit for the NCLEX exam)?

Your reply would be very much appreciated. God bless you!

*Any updates on whether or not California now requires a local license this 2008? How true is this?

Hi kanebo...i was reading some of your post here and just wanna ask about what happen to your CES application?did it get approve?.i didnt take my nle also and i am having a problem with my CA application...i sent my application last december together with my reason and now they are telling me to send a copy of my local license. I called them up and they said that i need to send again and that they are really strict now and they need a valid reason..my reason was that i came here in the U.S before my graduation and the local board exam. cause i really need to b/c my K4 visa(minor dependent visa) will expire and if im not gonna enter US before my visa expires, i may not be able to enter US for many years.what im planning now is to send them again my letter or start applying for CES..and by the way, does your friend applying for CA also?..did she recieve that letter?or she is still applying for one?..hope to hear from you.. SALAMAT!...^_^

Hi! My friend just fedexed his documents last Monday to CA BON and included a letter stating that he has no intention to practice nursing in the Philippines that is why he did not take the local board. Not sure though if this will still work but he gave it a try. So, did you send them a new letter? How many months passed before you even heard or received a letter from them?

I just arrived in the US, I called up CA BON last week and asked them if they require local license...the lady on the other end told me that if you don't have one then just write them an explanation letter. So, I guess we'll just have to wait and see what happens.

With regards my CES, am done with it even without a local license. You just have to send them an explanation letter why you don't have a local license.

oh well i see...well Im gonna send my letter today or just fax it..cause thats what the guy said..but im going to send a mail too just to be sure..well i send the letter last december, i recieved another one last march and they told me i forgot the fingerprinting processing fee then recieve this letter last april..i wasnt able to read it until last sunday because i just got back from my vacation..How about ur CES?..how long did it take you to process it?..does it take a while?...thanks again..

CA does not even use the CES.

And the issue is that CA has changed their policy since January of this year. And not wishing to work in PI is no longer a valid reason anymore, especially since there is a retrogression in place that affects most that are applying for the license in CA.

With a five year wait, one needs to get experience someplace.

And CA has the right to require the NLE be written, it is not up to anyone else. Also be aware that the person that answers the phone is not the one that approves anything.

Well im thinking to start my CES already b/c i am thinking of applying in another states who requires CES. i am just thinking ahead of time because with the CA getting strict now. My reason is not because i dont have any intention to work in the philippines but because i dont have no option but to move here in the U.S with my mom before my board exams. this is because my K4 visa(minor derivative visa from my mothers k3 visa or spouse visa) to begin the change of status process.my visa expired 2 days after my graduation ceremony in march 2006 and we moved here march 14 2006. If CA wouldnt accept this reason then i might as well apply in another state. I am a permanent resident here in us already and i live in hawaii. i talked to BON here yesterday and ask them if they require local license and they said it is not necessary but you need to have a CES or cgfns certificate. take note guys!...it is ces OR cgfns. so its either one.i doubled check that to them.just wanna tell everybody this. cause theres a lot of BSN foreign grad here in HI who apply in CA bc they dont have license in PI. cause what they know is that they require one...hope this would help..

Go ahead and start researching w/c State BONs still don't require a local NLE.

hello.

i am a filipino-american. i graduated nursing here in the Philippines just last year. i applied for my NCLEX in California. i don't hold a license in the Philippines so i also included in the requirements i mailed, a written explanation why i don't hold a license in the Philippines. i just stated that i am an American citizen and i look to pursue my nursing career in California.

now i received a letter a week ago from California BON requesting for the following below?

- A copy of your nursing license from the Philippines is a requirement of the board.

- As a American citizen you would have been allowed to take the exam in the Philippines but not allowed to receive a license. We could have used the results as an exemption to waive license requirement.

- We will require proof of citizenship via Visa, Naturalization document, birth certificate if born here or Greencard. Your proof will be passed onto management for final decision regarding your eligibility for NCLEX.

Why is this? Is my reason for not holding a local license not good enough? or California BON now requires copy of your nursing license from the Philippines?

I would really appreciate it if someone could help me or give me some info regarding in this matter...

Thank you.

CA BRN had really become strict about the NLE as a requirement if educated in PI and that they will only waive it only if their truly is a valid reason.

They already gave you a very detailed explanation on why and what to do next. There is no other way but to do what they want you to do.

Do you also hold a Filipino Citizenship (Dual Citizen) or was born in PI?

Besides from what CA BRN is asking you what to do, you may also try and ask PRC's legal Dept. a Letter or a certification from them that you are not allowed to take the NLE per Phil. Law if indeed you are not allowed per PRC's determination but from CA BRN's reply to you it seems they already know that an American Citizen can take the board exam but just not get licensed and they will waive it as long as you took and passed it.

After you have done everything what they asked you to do, it is up to them to make a final determination.

Goodluck.

P.S. Some State BONs also ask for proof of citizenhip, GC holder, or any valid visa to be able to legally work in the US before giving licenses as well and passing the NCLEX-RN is not enough to get the license.

I just received a letter from california BON stating the need to submit a copy my a local nursing license before being granted eliginility to sit for the nclex exam. This a very unexpected setback and is inhumane and unfair. It is not even stated in their website(current even). It is a form of blackmail and redtape.Pardon me for being sour but if it was clearly stated in the requirements then i would have complied from the start to save precious time.I submitted my nclex application last January and they received it by the first week of Feb. Hope this serves as a warning to future Cali Nclex applicants. Call the respective State BONs to verify specific most recent guidelines and requirements before proceeding with the NCLEX appl.:banghead:

Pardon the double post but this is of extreme importance:

really? Gosh! so what are you planning to do now? take the local board?

If you can take the local boards then take it, Unless you are already an American citizen, aint no use in rushing your American licensure applications.
