Hello, I am an international student and be will be graduating this December. Please I need some advice on how to find agencies or hospitals that file for green card for nurses. Thank you.

What country are you from? Did you apply for OPT? The wait for those born in certain countries is 10+ year no employer is going to hold a job for an inexperienced new grad for over a decade.

Where are you going to school

The nursing profession is getting over crowded and it's highly competitive here nowadays. I doubt any employees will spend the money to bring a new grad from another country when there are tons of them here fighting to get an internship. My advice to you is, work in your country for 2-5 years in areas of high demand. Start a year on med-surg, transfer to ICU and if you can get in the Cath Lab or OR even better. PACU is also in high demand. Make yourself good at it and maybe then a highly in need employer will take a bet on you.

Yes I applied for OPT. I'm from Nigeria. My OPT is good for 1 year but I was thinking long term. I'm going to school in Texas.

I'm already here in the US. I will be graduating from a Texas University.

Hi...I've moved your post to allnurses World Nursing › Advice on Immigration forum

Many posts here on this topic.

With the current glut of graduate nurses, few employers looking to sponsor nurses + only accepting experienced RN's.

Sponsorship statistics in TX are dismal. There is extremely little incentive for an employer to go through the time & expense of visa sponsorship for a new grad when there are dozens of US citizens & permanent resident new grads seeking work. How will they justify hiring a non-citizen new grad nurse when there are 10 citizen/PR grads equally qualified for the job? USCIS will likely deny the application. Student visas are intended for students to study, train practically for a year then return to their home country to practice the career not as a means to immigration. I'm sorry but the odds are stacked against you. It's likely you will have difficulty securing an employer for OPT. Its expensive to orient a new grad. Why spend the time, effort and expense on someone only eligible to work for a year when there are other candidates equally qualified that don't need sponsorship.

JustBeachyNurse thank you for your contribution but I don't think it's a bad as you portray it. I have few days to my graduation and I already accepted an offer from a reputable hospital and they know my OPT is good for one year. They have told me that they may not sponsor me but they'd be happy to have me for one year or let me go if I find any agency willing to sponsor me.

Then, I have to ask, why are you posting the question here? It sounds like you have the answers you're looking for?

BuckyBadgerRN My response did not in any way show I found an answer. I am looking for suggestions and information about agencies/hospitals willing to sponsor. Please read my original post.

All you can do is contact hospitals and ask if they are sponsoring for green card. I would also keep an eye on the visa bulletin and what processing times are like. Nurses generally come under EB3
