Yuma seasonal position (next winter)

Winter is always the best time to take travel/seasonal asssignments in the southwest. You could choose Yuma, Tucson, Phx, or Las Vegas. (or about a bizillion other places)

If you are really looking for excitement/adventure, the I would put Yuma in last place. Try out Phoenix or Vegas.

Do you mind sharing what they offered you?

Hi, Thanks for the response!! Actually, they haven't offered me anything. I'm just beginning to consider the idea. I do know that we lived in Sierra Vista, AZ and I was making $31.50/hr, but that was not a seasonal or travel position. Yuma held a bit of appeal because the hospital has an apartment complex and it is so close to S. Calif which is where the majority of our family live. Maybe that is a bad thing

I'm also interested in hearing more about working conditions there in Yuma. I've talked with 2 nurses who have worked there - one a traveler who worked there last year, another who was a regular employee there in years past. The traveler has nothing but positives to say, the regular nothing but negatives. To his credit he hasn't worked there in a few years.

What say those in the know?

Hi everyone,
Does anybody know anything about the seasonal positions in Yuma? I looks like they can run up to 9 months (website info) and the housing looks great. Would love to hear from someone that works there or has had a seasonal position. I'm not set on Yuma, but we are looking for a bit of an adventure!!!!!! Thanks to anyone that can give me a bit of insight!!!!!

sorry can't comment about nurisng since I am not a nurse yet but are you still a military spouse ( going by your name). Because one good thing about Yuma if your military is the base, you'd have medical (for you) and the commisary which us military spouses know ( me included) we can save TONS of $$$$$$$$$

Hi,

Actually hubby retired about 1.5 years ago. Believe it or not, I'm not a huge fan of the commissary when we live close to a Super Walmart. Although, the commissary always had great prices on Wasabi Peas (can't find them at Walmart and they are about $8.00/can at regular store). You have an interesting screen name. Where did you move from?

I too would like to learn more about YRMC in Yuma. I grew up there and moved to new england. I graduate nrsg in 2 weeks. I am thinking of going back.

I am a former employee of Yuma Regional Medical Center. I quit a year and a half ago. The benefits are not bad. They treat travelers well, usually better than they treat regular staff. Being in a small town, they are very similar to other small town hospitals, ex: very clicky. (I know that's not the proper spelling) If you're clicky, you'll like it just fine. If not, you probably won't. I left there, and am currently working at the Not-for-Profit hospice organization. I love it. Actually, the pay in Yuma is better than it is in Phoenix or in other places in the state. If you're looking for night life you won't find it in Yuma, go to San Diego or Phoenix for a little culture. But overall, Yuma is a nice community. I've been here for 3 years and love it. It's small at times, but too big at other times. For more info, you can catch me at yahoo.

Thank you for sharing your experiences! I grew up in Yuma, got married and started nrsg school in the east. I think I am ready to go back to my sick mother. I just spoke to a recruiter at YRMC and might take a job there.

Glad to see a Yuma seaonal RN on this site! Husband and I thinking of moving the entire family down there for the winter and hoping to find a Spanish/Bilingual nanny to help with our 3 children. Eager to work with Spanish speaking patients and families....I believe this is the best way to learn another language. Any advice on this matter? Was also wondering who paid more? A travel positition vs a seasonal position with the hospital? Any perks I should be aware of? Thanks so much!! Angie
