I have 3.5 years experience mostly Med/Surg/Tele with about a year of cardiac. A friend of mine thinks I would love ICU. I wanted to ask you guys what you love and hate about ICU. My friend know I am very particular about dotting my I's and crossing my T's and that is why she thinks I would like ICU.

The unit takes everything you've learned in medsurg and then puts it on steroids. You learn so much more about pharmacology and physiology than you ever thought you would. You monitor for upward or downward trends. Typically have lots of protocols and standing orders as well as have a very close and collaborative relationship with the physicians.
What I love about ICU
-Technology-->Vents, monitors, swans, numbers, etc.
-Pharmacology
-Physiology
-1-3 patients
What I hate:
Families have the potential to be 10 times more exhausting
Total Care
Torturing people who usually end up dying.
