I live in Oklahoma and am considering becoming an RN. There is a college here (Platt) that offers a 1 year LPN and a 1 year LPN to RN course. How many hospitals are likely to hire an RN without a BSN? I am SO CONFUSED! Thanks for your help!
ALSO, WHAT IS THE AVERAGE COST OF AN RN EDUCATION??? I read about a federal program that pays the cost of college if I work in an area that is short of nurses for 2 years. Have any of you had any luck with this? Why is there such a huge difference in cost at different colleges? Do I get what I pay for?

are you sure it's the same college? I thought they just started the LPN-RN program a couple years ago...Boy I would like to know!
Thank you so much for the encouragement. I know that I want to help people and I have always wanted to be a nurse since I was 5. I didn't even know what an RN was, but I told everyone who asked that I was going to be an "RN" when I grew up. Now that I am 32, I have serious concerns as to whether I am going to be able to be up to date enough to go back to college. I honestly feel dumb when my daughter asks me for help with her English and Algebra and I can't figure it out. I am a little worried. This is more than just believing in myself, how much math and english is there in most RN programs?thanks!
Go for it!! I am a 38 year old mom of 4 and I started back to school 3 years ago, when my youngest was 3 months old(and she had severe acid reflux!).. I started with a course that was fairly easy for me( Composition), that boosted my esteem and I spent the next years working my way up to the pre and co requisits required for a 2 year program(check around as different programs have different requirements) I was out of school so long that I started with a pre algebra and then an elementary algebrsa before I could even tke college algebra(a pre requisite)..at first I was soo bummed thinking about the 5 years it would take to get my RN, but my husband said "In 2 years you can be a nurse or wish you were, either way, 5 years is coming"..good luck!
he is very supportive(he is a firefigher..I call him "my pension plan" he calls me his "investment!)..not perfect, but supportive. If you need support, I am here as well as many others...dont ever give up, we only have one life to live, I try to live it with as few "what ifs" as possible. In the other areas, he is a typical male..LOL (thankfully of the non drinking kind!!)
Renee,
Where in Oklahoma are you? I am in SW OKC and attend UCO. I've applied to both UCO and OU nursing programs. Have you looked at OSU-OKCs nursing program? I have heard nothing but good about their program.
I have used up almost all my financial aid so I have been looking around to find out how to pay for my last year or nursing school and I know Integris, if accepted, will pay up to $4000 a year towards your education if you sign a contract with them to work for them in return. Not a bad deal and my friend works for them and really liked them, plus after a year they have a loan reimbursment plan so its a good deal all the way around.
And ADN or BSN will get you hired. You do what is best for you, if you can't do BSN now you can get it later. I'm only getting my BSN now because I have so many credit hours I want to get a bachelors in something! LOL Plus I want to go to PA school in a few years.
Anyways, PM me if you want!!
Yeah, I got a good guy, it's just that my education isn't highest on the list around here when we are living paycheck to paycheck. I think he would be happier with me brining in something now versus later although he was the one that wanted me to be a stay at home mom.
Anyway, I live in tulsa county and can't travel more than 30 mins wherever I go, my husband's work schedule puts me at the mercy of time constraints. He wants another job, but has a hard time quitting a job that pays as good as his.
Thanks guys for all the support!

I have a friend who graduated from Platt with her RN almost 14 years ago. She's spent her entire career working on various cardiac units in the Integris system (and it's predecessor).
