Yea or Nay on NCLEX review course

U.S.A. Arizona

I am considering taking an NCLEX review course once finishing NS in December (yay!!). However, I've gotten quite a range of opinions on whether to take a review course or not. Some say to take one - it helped. However, others have said it was a waste of time and money and that I'd be better off spending that time studying.

What do you guys think? Did you or did you not take a review course before sitting for the NCLEX? How did you come to that decision? If you did, how did you decide which one?

I didn't take a review class, flat out couldn't afford one. Back then hospitals didn't pay the fees for you. I just studied a couple review books in the areas I know I was weaker in. Passed the first time. I have always believed, alot of the people who don't pass know the info but were just too nervous. I say take 10 deep breaths and don't let your nerves get the best of you on test day. You got though school so do review what your rusty on then few days before your test. do something to relax, not party , but relax away from studying. I know thats hard when you feel like your whole life/future depends on that one test. That mys advice..........

I purchased the new Saunders NCLEX book at B&N and am going to blow off the Kaplan. Did very well on the HESI the other day (over 1000 points) so I'm going to study on my own. Thanks for all the input from everyone. You guys just saved me $399 :lol2:

Boomerfriend,

Remember, most of the hospitals will not only pay your tuition for Kaplan, they'll pay you to take the class as well, so if you feel like you need more, you might want to look into it.

That's assuming you are working when you want to take the NCLEX review. I'm not employed right now so the cost of this course would be all on me.

I wasn't working either while I was studying for the NCLEX. I never did Kaplan or anything. Like I said I just used Saunders and I passed on the first try. You'll be fine! :)
