Yale GEPN 2021

Published

Hey all! I am reapplying and wanted to create this for everyone applying. I won't be as involved as I was last year, but good luck to everyone! I know they're having seminars and allowing people to schedule one on one consultations for applications.

Thank you so much for that. Unfortunately, my work schedule will not permit me to shadow a NP. Though, I do have two different NP in my faculty that have two different work ethics and two different specialities, they only come in once a week and aren’t there for more than 1/2 hour. But, I’m pretty sure my observation in what she does, is more than enough for me to determine why I want be a NP and the speciality I’ve chosen.

Hello everyone,

So I received an email about application tips and reminders. So, there are tips for style notes and generic application notes. I know it was previously said in the previous comment to shadow a NP and get a “LOR”, It would said in the tips that “essay should include your experience/observations of the advance nurse practitioner role.” “Don’t forget to pick a speciality and address that choice in your essay - tell us a story”. If this helps anyone. I know it does for me because I can observe the NP in my building and elaborate more on my essay.

@MC__3 All but 1 person in my study group was asked if they shadowed an NP during their interview (even though we had it written in our resumes if we did). The one that was not asked actually had similar interactions as you with NPs so that may be why they didn't ask that individual (this person did not shadow because their work experience sufficed). I hope that is encouraging for you. The above recommendation was a word of caution that they typically ask you face to face about shadow experiences and it's wise to be as prepared as possible. You can email an extra LOR or two, not a handful, and must be extremely relevant. Anything to augment your application. This is something I did a lot of digging about last year and is not information that is readily available. I hope that helps.

There is definitely nothing wrong with additional information to help in the application process. But, fortunately our outside contractors come in and I am able to observe. I wouldn’t be able to ask for a “LOR” as supplement material, if I did it really wouldn’t be relevant. You as well as I, have been speaking with  others and seeking helpful tips and advice on the application process and interview. Good luck to everyone applying for Fall 2021.

Thanks for the input!

We can email extra letters? I saw it said in the application that they claimed the commitee will not read more than the three they require, even if you send more.

I am not aware of additional “LOR” as supplemental documentation. I am sticking to the guidelines of the application and the tips given. From the tips/guidelines... this is per the email I received.

Essay should include your experience/observations of the advanced nurse practitioner role.

Don't forget to pick a specialty and address that choice in your essay - tell us a story!

hope this helps ?

I saw that email too! I thought you were suggesting to email additional LOR outside of the three required, my mistake! Unfortunately, restrictions in my state are making it so people cannot shadow in person. I've just been reaching out to do virtual interviews.  The story part is what's getting to me ?. I wrote a good story for my first draft and since those circumstances haven't changed, I'm afraid of repeating myself .

That actually didn’t come from me, but from someone else in the thread. I just was responding to her and what I had plan to do.

The essay part is just telling who you are and why you want to be an APRN. Follow the questions they ask while incorporating who you are. I’m hoping this helps.

Hi Everyone! I am applying for GEPN 2021 and wanted to ask others who are applying again about GRE scores. Are they looking at only the Verbal and Quantitative scores, or also the writing portion? I did fine on the Verbal and Quantitative, but my writing score is not as great. I wasn't sure how important this score was. Thanks in advance if anyone knows!

@ad202 I am applying again. They mostly focused on verbal and quant.  They also only focused on the quant and verbal scores during the info session I attended over the Summer.  I think as long as it's not below a 3 it should be OK. Plus, you have a chance to make up for via quality essays from your application. That way, it'll show you can produce quality writing. I know multiple people have mentioned getting in with no so hot gre scores.
