Like midwifery students of past years, I as well have fallen in love with Yale's GEPN Midwifery program. This question is about the personal statement.
Ive been told that this is the most important part of the application, and that it should tell your story. This was said by Dr. Korevec during the informational, so I'm fairly confident in knowing that's what they want. It should explain why Yale and why nursing. However, whenever someone proofreads my personal statement, they know I'm applying to Yale and say it reads too much like a story and not like a college application essay. It's happened like 3 times and now I'm not sure what to do. Any advice?
thanks!
Congratulations!
I'm sure it just hard for some of us who have not received a interview, while knowing that this is 1 of 3 attempts.
It is Even harder for those who are of Asian American Background and face the obstacle of Affirmative Action.
But yea! Congratulations to all those who got an interview! I'm sure your all amazing!
I can empathize. It's difficult for Caucasian females as well, especially in nursing. Hopefully, Yale will evaluate for merit, not our ethnic background. A very controversial topic, but I have experienced affirmative action working against me. In the end, I realized I don't want to be a part of a program that ignores merit to meet some type of quota. Hopefully this doesn't offend others. Just voicing my experience. Hang in there, it'll work out for you!
Thank you for your words NPHopeful123. I personally had no idea that Caucasian females undergo a different set of challenges and barriers to Nursing.
I am sorry to hear that Affirmative Action has worked against you as well. It is certainly a disheartening experience (as you must know).
Thank you again for your words and feedback.
I am not here to argue, but I do not like venomous rhetoric.
Women comprise 91% of the nursing workforce, and 76% of all nurses are caucasian.
Yale's nursing student body is 87.7% female and 65.8% White with Asian being second at 11.2%.
Affirmative action is not a program set to "discriminate" against the privileged but to offer an opportunity to groups marginalized historically. Whether you get into the program will not be based on any persons race or gender but a system that is flawed. I will leave you with this, the positions you have taken are the same rhetoric that is spewed by the supporters of #45; you will have patients of all backgrounds, and the positions you have taken are disheartening. That is all I have to say.
Thank you. I appreciate your feedback, and your absolutely correct. I was completely focused on the wrong things, and my venomous ideas are not healthy. Please accept my sincere apology.
I am striving to be a better person, and so I welcome anyone to call me out if my words, ideas, or attitudes are inappropriate. Again, so very sorry.
