Yale GEPN 2016

Nursing Students Post Graduate

Published

Hi all!

I didn't see a Yale GEPN 2016 thread, so I thought it would be good to start one! Does anyone know the average GPA and GRE score for the 2015 entering class?

Hello! Wondering if anyone else on here applied for the AG-ACNP track?

Also, does anyone know how many students are in each speciality area? I know that midwifery and FNP are large...

kbaron, I applied AG-ACNP! I've wondered the same thing!

I also applied AG-ACNP! kbaron and Bruins, what are your specific interest areas? I hope to eventually find myself on a palliative care team.

Sneakysqueak, that is a great passion to have! I want to work in gastroenterology, specifically in an academic medical center as I would like to do research on chronic disease management (crohn's, ulcerative colitis, celiac, etc.)

My passion is in trauma surgery - I think... I'm a sponge, I tend to soak up and get excited about anything i'm involved in. I think that I will learn a lot about myself in clinicals - if I get in!

Yikes - maybe AG-ACNP is a more popular track than we thought?!

I received the same email (about them giving out interview selections on Dec 15th). It's a popular date! Counting down the days and crossing my fingers! :)

Hello! Fellow 2016 GEPN applicant for FNP here, just stumbled across this thread and I'm happy to see there are others as neurotic about this as me. :)

Anyways, wondering if any current GEPN student could share anything about their interviews? Who'd they meet with? What kind of questions did they ask? Any advice?

Good luck to everyone!

Hi all! Dunno how I missed this thread, I certainly searched for it enough!

I got an email from Sandy last week saying that they hadn't received my transcripts, scariest moment of my life! Turns out BOTH of my schools sent to the wrong address. So that was fun....but now they are in and awaiting review. Good luck to everyone else!

What other schools did you all apply to? I am waiting to hear back from UCSF, Columbia, and Northeastern as well as Yale, and finishing my apps to OHSU and UH. Fingers crossed that this is a good month!

Hi all, current GEPN here currently procrastinating studying for her pharm exam tomorrow. Whoops.

Anyway, I wanted to answer the question about the number of students per specialty. It varies with each cohort; however in general, the breakdown is the Psych, Midwifery and Family have approximately 20 students each. Peds will have between 10-12 and Acute Care and Adult-Gero have around 5 students each. There is a small amount of flexibility when it comes to switching your specialty because it comes down to the number of clinical sites that Yale has reserved each year.

I hope everyone gets to enjoy their break even though I know how nerve-wracking the waiting process is. Just think that this time next year, you might be studying at the library surrounded by all your fellow GEPNs :) Misery loves company.

P.S. Doulame and Mammal - you both are fabulous for answering everyone's questions!

I can't speak for anyone else, but I had a really relaxed interview. You meet with a faculty member from your specialty, and by this point they have already read you entire application so they aren't necessarily interested in hearing you repeat your resume verbatim. They want to see that you have personality and can basically play nicely with others. My interviewer just asked me a lot about what lead me to a career in nursing, and my perception of the NP career. She wanted to know why I was interested in Yale. We ended up talking for about an hour and a half. Unsurprisingly, like the rest of the application process, Yale has everything down to a science. They have presentations from various people throughout the day and you simply excuse yourself when it is your time to be interviewed. They'll have students around as well, so you can ask any of us questions. Like everyone has said before me, the real key is to just be yourself. Our professors can smell BS from a mile away. They want to see applicants who are put together, knowledgeable, passionate and personable.

Elle, it's definitely finals week so let's all procrastinate here! ;)

My interview, honestly, was cake. I interviewed with the program director for my specialty. It was not interviewy at all. It was extremely conversational and informal. Like having coffee with someone. Looking back, I am surprised by how little we talked about anything to do with midwifery or the program. If you get to the interview stage, please do not stress about it. You will stress anyway, but really do not be like me and read your interviewers thesis statement. Ha ha ha. I think it's fine to do a small amount of research on your person but don't get crazy. I actually read a lot of it because I thought it was interesting, but that is beside the point. The point is, you will be fine. Smile and relax. :)

Interview process is very seductive. Ha ha. They have it down to a science. If you are anything like me you will walk away from interview day feeling like you are going to die if you don't get in.
