Yale GEPN 2014 Applicants

Published

It's probably too soon to start this thread- anyone else out there?

That's really interesting ;-) I wonder why our stats differ (482 vs >600). I can't really say where I got this info without breaking the ToS.

Hmm, perhaps the 482 is to GEPN only and the rest are RN-MSN and post-masters candidates?

Thanks SaintlyJ!

I never thought that they would have the same interview days on purpose, let's hppe not!

I feel very fortunate because I'm interviewing at both UCSF and Yale in late January, and somehow also not on the same day. In the unlikely scenario that I would have to choose between the two programs... I struggle to find a clear answer, because they both seem like a dream come true.

I'm really hoping visiting the schools and the interviewing/orientation process will help point me in the right direction. I've always wanted to live in San francisco, and both programs seem amazing. I also like that Yale seems to encourage research, which is another goal of mine.

It looks as though NYC is not too far from Orange; do you all ever get out to the city??

Thanks for the info, it was helpful :)

NYC is about an hour and a half to two hours away from Orange/New Haven via MetroNorth (West Haven or Union Station). Yes, students go to the big apple from time to time! :) Either just to visit, or even to go to conferences there. Depending on your specialty, you even get together with students from other programs around region (NYU/Columbia/etc) to talk about various issues. There are even a few who decide to live in the city and commute to Yale.

Don't forget about cost, if that matters to you. I didn't even bother applying to UCSF because the cost of living in SF is ridiculous, and the tuition at UCSF is the highest I've seen. They keep raising it every year too because the UC system is broke, so who knows how much it'll go up next year. But both are great schools with solid programs.

Hello I have a question to those interviewing in person. Are people planning to stay the night the day of the interview, perhaps go out to dinner or to get a feel for the area? I'm wondering if I should book one or two nights. My interview is 24th Friday for psych specialty. I am coming from California so I figure if I can get there and compose myself the night before the interview that would be nice. Once that's over, I wonder how much people will be gathering, if at all? Should I stay that night and hit the local Yale grad student hangouts?

Thanks farful! I'm so excited, even just to have been invited for an interview :)

mzaur- price is almost always a consideration, but I decided UCSF and 1 other program are my exceptions. I've always wanted to live in SF... Almost everything I do is restricted by financial limitations, but this is my dream so I figure I might as well splurge on the best program, if it is made available to me!

Hi Mentalhealthadvocate,

I'm interviewing on the same day, and decided to stay the night of the 24th. I'd love for some of us to get together! let's PM soon. Anyone else interested in some sight seeing or what have you?

Congrats on interviews!!!We survived it!!!

Does anyone know when we should expect to hear decisions, and if these decisions will include scholarship information? It looks like people heard in March last year and those who got merit scholarships were informed at that time.

Decisions will be released on march 1, but MP said that she will try to get them out the day before. Financial aid info will be sent separately within a couple weeks of the decision letter.

I know that we're all still waiting for decisions from Yale, but I'm wondering if anyone has any thoughts on Yale v. Columbia. I imagine that some of you may have been accepted to Columbia and I'm curious to know people's thoughts on how they might choose one program over another.

Thanks :). What was everyone's experience like on interview day? What's the new campus like? I had to opt for a phone interview, so didn't get the full experience. That being said, I had such a fantastic interviewer and found the specialty info session to be very helpful when comparing programs.

March 1 feels so far away!
