There didn't seem to be a main thread for applicants to Yale's GEPN program this year, so I thought I'd get one started. I'm applying for the midwifery specialty and am currently working on my application essays, having done everything else.
Is anyone else really struggling with the main essay? I've finished my apps to two other programs and was happy with how those essays came out, but Yale's essay guidelines as so restrictive that I feel like my essay is turning out all disjointed. The fact that we have to answer every aspect of every question in *exactly the order they list* (this is apparently something that you need to take very seriously) means that I'm having to tie myself in knots. I want it to be not only informative about me as an applicant but also a good piece of writing - and I feel like the essay format is making this kind of difficult.
Anyone else out there applying?
hey! I am here. I was not offered a spot for acute care - but I a VERY low...but OLD GPA on my record. I was thrilled to have gotten and interview - and knew from the get go that I would reapply with some "a" classes as proof under my belt! was so close!! not discouraged though. was anyone who got in a reapplicant? to the best of my knowledge there was not a wait list for acute care specialty. so I think it's officially over for this year. i went in believing I would be an aprn in either 3 years or 4. 4 it is!
Hi all,
I'm new here but just found this! I was accepted for Nurse Midwifery and I'm over the moon!!!! I'm wondering what you all think of this:
Yale was the only school I applied to, mainly because I literally had NO prerequisites. Just in case I didn't get in, I signed up for prereq's at my local community college here in town. Now I've got a full load of classes and no real need to take them. I'm sure they'll help me at Yale, but I'd rather keep doing my doula work and freeing up some time. The only way I can withdraw now is with a W. I'm taking 5 classes. Do you all think this would be ok? Or should I just suck it up and finish them?
@manhattan doula: I think it is really up to you. Taking the pre-recs might make the 1st year all that much easier or it might not really make a difference. I know a midwife who graduated from the program 2 years ago -- took all the pre-recs -- and said there was very little gained by take them. She said the GEPN year really started at "ground zero". Waiting on pins and needles for the FA package. I look forward to meeting people via FB soon... though I'm not public yet as my current work (some of whom are FB friends) is not aware of my new status of Yale grad student come Sept 2012.

I hope I get it too :) Also, did you decline it for another CNM program LookingAhead? If you don't mind sharing, which?
