Yale GEPN Applicants 2012

Published

There didn't seem to be a main thread for applicants to Yale's GEPN program this year, so I thought I'd get one started. I'm applying for the midwifery specialty and am currently working on my application essays, having done everything else.

Is anyone else really struggling with the main essay? I've finished my apps to two other programs and was happy with how those essays came out, but Yale's essay guidelines as so restrictive that I feel like my essay is turning out all disjointed. The fact that we have to answer every aspect of every question in *exactly the order they list* (this is apparently something that you need to take very seriously) means that I'm having to tie myself in knots. I want it to be not only informative about me as an applicant but also a good piece of writing - and I feel like the essay format is making this kind of difficult.

Anyone else out there applying?

In for CNM! Yippee!!!! So thrilled! Popping the champagne with the family tonight. Mama's goin' to Yale. Hoping many of you are getting good news today.

Reasons for me: I know and respect many grads of the program; I like their efforts to use many modalities for educating adult learners; Yale's extensive resources beyond the program; the location (I will be a commuter); the CNM faculty and opportunity to do clinicals in a wide variety of settings.

I'm in for WH/Adult NP!! Congratulations to everyone! Yale is my #1, so I'll be sending that deposit ASAP.

I'm WH but much of what sold it for me has to do with that the resources at Yale are just so darn impressive. The human ones as well as matierial ;). You have access to some prominent profs in not ONLY nursing, but also public health, medicine, anthro, soc.....which I think enriches the nurs. school specific education. We'll have not only great clinical and theoretical NURSING experience but we will get a sense of how this whole nursing business fits into the grand scheme of things, at the cultural, social, technological, and political level (and ten zillion other "levels" I have omitted). You can't get that at places where....well....there aren't as many awesome profs and creative people. This school played a major part in professionalizing nursing.....that's a big selling point for me too! Good luck with your decision making km446.

wait listed for FNP, spent the last forty minutes crying in my car

Here's a link to a temporary facebook group page for new students. YSN will eventually set up an official one, but this way new admits can all meet each other asap!

Got wait listed for CNM christymel and did the same thing :crying2:

But it's NOT a rejection! There's still a chance that someone who got accepted chooses another school and you'll get in!

Although, I cannot seem to understand how accepted students need to notify them of their decision by March 23 and they usually don't let people off the waiting list before April 30th...What in the heck are they doing for a month???

i'm so sorry christymel. keep your head held high! you still have a chance! are you still waiting on any other programs?

I'm declining my offer at Yale for CNM - I hope this opens up a spot for you ASAP!

wait listed for FNP as well - on the upside it's not an out and out rejection and the road doesn't end here, but the downside is more waiting and not knowing...does anyone recall info in previous threads on wait list stats? i'm going to call admissions tomorrow and ask about number of ppl on the WL, ranking, etc., and will report back with any pertinent info for those in the same boat.

Two things I remember from last year (I'm a GEPN on leave), there were a number of wait list folks who did get in, and this is my favorite story...One of classmates applied 10 times and finally got in last year! What's even more amazing is that he is one of the star students this year! Keep your chins up!

I got wait listed for FNP too. I'm keeping my finger's crossed that this will still end on a positive note.
